Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations, student's achievements, and developing methods of improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment. Directs assistant teacher and special education paraeducator, volunteers, and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students. Collaborates effectively with special education teacher, related servers, instructional coach, and other colleagues for the purpose of providing appropriate services to all students as outlined in the IEP. Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Monitors preschool students in a variety of educational environments for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Models conversation, manners, clean up activities, listening skills, etc. for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social and interpersonal behavior. Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. weekly newsletters, assessment reports, lesson plans, etc.) for the purpose of communicating with parents, documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements. Attends IEP meetings for students as needed. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to the appropriate personnel for resolution.     The Substitute Teacher's job is to be available to substitute teach at least 4 days of each month school is in session (36 days each school year). Substitutes are called in advance, when possible. Often, however, illness occurs without notice so substitutes will be called the same day a substitute is needed. Substitutes rarely take over the classroom as a homeroom teacher (even when subbing for a homeroom teacher) but instead take on the roll of Class Instructor (or Teacher's Aide). Substitutes will teach a reading, math, and spelling group so they need to be trained in Direct Instruction programs. Substitutes are also responsible for supervision of lunch, recess, and transitions to and from Art, PE, and groups. During DIBELS Benchmark Assessments in grades K-6, this specialist will be a part of the DIBELS Assessment Team and assist Administration in assessing all of the K-6 students using the DIBELS benchmark assessments. DIBELS responsibilities occur three times each school year - September, January, and May. If called to substitute during DIBELS assessments, substitute responsibilities would take priority. Duties: The following list of duties will give the applicant an idea of what duties may be required, but is not an inclusive list: Attend Direct Instruction training in the summer Accept opportunity to sub at least 4 days each month school is in session or as needed Come in early to prepare to teach reading, math, and spelling groups (when called in advance to sub) Read scripts, prepare copies, ask questions Follow teacher instructions left for you Keep American Prep classroom management standards high Keep data and records in Data Binder Supervise students during lunch time Supervise students when out at recess Report any problems to homeroom teacher or other applicable staff members Attend all meetings (when applicable) Work closely with staff members to ensure students are safe and engaged in learning Qualifications Education/Experience: Organization - This employee will need to be prepared in a moments notice to substitute, when available. Work Ethic - This employee must be willing to work at least 4 days per month throughout the entire school year. Hours may or may not be stable, as the number of subbing opportunities change from week to week. Because Administration is busy running the day-to-day operations of the school, there will be little to no Administrative oversight as to whether you fulfill your commitment to work 4 days per month. An excellent work ethic is vital to success in this position. Initiative - This employee must be willing to work whenever needed. They should be comfortable asking questions when clarifications are needed, doing what is asked and also what may not be asked but still needs to be done. Reports to trainer or supervisor level in Training department. * Provides instruction, direction, counsel, and feedback to missionaries in the following training settings: one-on-one coaching, small group facilitation, large group workshops, and monitoring Canvas participation and discussion boards * Plans and prepares lessons following approved curriculum in coordination with a companion teacher (when applicable) to meet missionary's needs * Directs missionaries in planning and accounting for their learning. * Implements direction and training from the Teacher Trainer/Supervisor, Manager of Training, and Senior Manager of Training. * Attends weekly training meetings and participate in co-teacher meetings * Assists area leadership in coordinating with mission and Missionary Department leadership, as requested. * Reports on needs and progress of assigned tasks to leadership. * Coaches missionaries in preparation for and during practice and live lessons * May be asked to assist in assessing the proficiency level of missionaries and teacher applicants in the target language. * May take on additional responsibilities as an Actor to role-play as a non-member interested in learning about The Church of Jesus Christ * May take on additional responsibilities as a Training Area Assistant, as hours allow * May include other temporary assigned duties at the MTC (e.g. assisting with Mission Leadership Seminar) Required: * Must be a returned missionary * Fluency in specified second language (for language teaching positions) * Outstanding coaching, facilitation, and training skills and abilities * Knowledge and understanding of Preach My Gospel * Excellent interpersonal, prioritizing, professionalism, and leadership skills * Self-motivated and able to work well with people * Willing to receive and implement feedback * Understanding of effective language-learning strategies (for language teaching positions) * Strong communication and organizational skills * Ability to communicate (verbal and written) in English and second language (for language teaching positions; non-verbal communication for ASL teachers) * To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting or standing for long periods of time and using monitors/equipment. Preferred: * MTC classroom teaching or tutoring experience * Experience with online interactions including chat, video conference, etc.
