GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Center Manager, the Substitute plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the early childhood center. This position helps create a warm, safe, and nurturing environment where children can thrive socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. The role includes classroom support, kitchen and janitorial duties (as applicable), and collaboration with staff and families to ensure a high-quality learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
To become the Lead / Assistant Teacher when a regular classroom teacher is absent.
To familiarize self with the day's planned activities.
To assist in implementing culturally sensitive educational activities that are developmentally appropriate for each child's age and language in an individual or small group setting.
To provide a warm, nurturing, loving and positive environment, using positive guidance techniques and upholding the ECS Discipline Policy.
To develop nurturing relationships with each child which encourages his or her social and emotional development.
To maintain all federal, state, local and accreditation standards. (These may include those set forth by DECAL, ECS, and Head Start.)
To follow policies and procedures regarding medical and dental emergencies, short-term exclusion of children, and the administration, handling and storing of medications.
To ensure that safe practices are followed to prevent injuries to children or self.
To maintain sanitation and hygiene procedures and participate in the maintenance of the center.
To provide and encourage effective communication and relationships with families so that parents feel comfortable talking to staff about their children.
To encourage parent involvement in all aspects of the program.
To eat with children, encouraging proper eating habits and conversation.
To communicate regularly with other staff to better serve children and families, including attending staff meetings, trainings, and sharing information.
To have a cooperative, positive and supportive attitude within the program.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED required.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrate competency to provide effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions, plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment and promote children's progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate.

Complete TB screening & physical before having direct contact with children. Renew every 2 years.
Current First Aid and Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training.
At least 10 hours of state-approved training completed within the first 90 days of employment.
25 hours of annual training?(January-December) in topics related to child development, health and safety, curriculum, and program operations.
Training must be?Georgia state-approved?and documented in the staff member's personnel file.

The process of becoming a substituteteacher is outlined below. These steps are to be completed in order. ALL UPDATES, NOTIFICATIONS, and APPROVALS will be sent electronically to the email address you provided on your application.
Complete an online application. Position must be posted to apply. If the position is not posted then applications are not currently being accepted. Substituteteacher positions will be posted 3 times per year; Summer, Fall, and Spring. Please note references are completed electronically through your online application. A present or past supervisor and/or people you have worked with in the past should be listed as references. Please be sure to enter a complete and correct email address for your references. Notify each reference that they will receive an automated reference questionnaire by email for completion. Encourage them to complete the reference inquiry in timely manner, so that the application process is not delayed/incomplete. Friends or relatives will not be accepted as references.
Complete substitute test requirement (if applicable). Applicants who do not have a four-year degree must pass a 98 question basic screening test and make an acceptable score of 80 or higher before being considered. Testing is conducted at the the Liberty County Board of Education, 200 Bradwell Street, Hinesville, Georgia 31313. The test will be administered on the dates listed below beginning promptly at 9:00 a.m. Late comers will not be seated. You will be given two hours to complete the test. Bring proof of identification. Scores will be emailed to you. Applicants with a four-year degree do not have to test, but must provide official transcripts of a Bachelor's Degree or higher.
Complete the LiveScan (Background Check) process. The LiveScan process should be completed
AFTER
passing the substitute test. (This includes both finger printing and background check) If you are exempt from the test, you will be notified by Human Resources as to when to proceed with completion of the LiveScan. Favorable references and proof of education must be received before proceeding. The LiveScan process must be completed at the Hinesville Police Department.
After HR receives a successful background check, an email notification will be sent to your application account with instructions to register for a four-hour training session at the Liberty County Board of Education. All approved substitute applicants; regardless of certification, status must attend training.
Register with the Human Resources Department for SubstituteTeacher Training. Please bring the following documents with you:
Driver's License
Social Security Card (REQUIRED- No other documents can be substituted for your SS card for Payroll purposes. Your social security card must match your legal name.)

A Teacher is directly responsible for planning and implementing early childhood development learning experiences and activities; for the day-to-day management of an assigned classroom and the supervision of assigned Teacher Assistants and classroom volunteer(s)
Specific Responsibilities:
Daily lesson plans must reflect the use of the assigned curriculum and be age appropriate and must contain a variety of activities Implement a curriculum designed to improve the physical abilities, social/emotional development, and mental skills of children enrolled in the program; review with Center Coordinator/Lead Teacher before implementation
Supervise, monitor, and observe each child and make recommendations for improvements in individual educational plans
Coordinate the activities of volunteers and aides assigned to the classroom; work closely with staff professionals in carrying out parent involvement activities
Keep written reports and records of health, attendance, problems, and progress of each child
Participate in conferences with parents and other staff professionals to enhance child development through a carefully planned and coordinated program

On-going observations, recording, (anecdotal or other) and evaluations of each child's growth and development must be contained in each child's file.
Within the authority given and in conjunction with the Education and Disabilities Specialists, develop and implement an individual education program (IEP) for each child with an identified and confirmed (professionally diagnosed) disability.
