Student Evaluation & Assessment: Use criterion and norm-referenced tests to assess pupils' visual functioning, communication, motor, social, self-help, academic, vocational, and cognitive skills. Determine eligibility and appropriate placement.
IEP Development: Create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) with measurable goals and objectives based on assessments, child development principles, and learning continuums.
Instruction & Integration: Teach specialized skills, including braille, orientation and mobility, and use of visual aids. Facilitate student integration into regular education programs and assist in explaining disabilities.
Curriculum & Consultation: Develop and deliver curriculum activities that align with students' objectives. Provide consultation and resources to regular classroom teachers.
Classroom Management: Maintain a positive learning environment, monitor student progress, and adjust teaching strategies as needed. Prepare and execute daily lesson plans, utilizing diverse materials and techniques.
Documentation & Compliance: Accurately complete records and ensure compliance with state regulations and timelines. Attend required meetings and share materials with colleagues.

Education & Credentials: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. Education Specialist credential in Visual Impairment.
Specialized Skills: Each candidate demonstrates the use of common specialized media devices such as closed circuit television, tape recorder, word processors with large print displays, Braille, or voice output capabilities, electronic note takers adaptive materials such as a talking calculator and tactile graphics, understands the psychological, sociological and vocational implications of visual impairment. In addition, each candidate demonstrates knowledge of the vocational implications resulting from attitudes toward visual impairment.
Certifications: First Aid and CPR Certification within six months of employment. DOJ/FBI Live Scan Background & TB Clearance required. Pro-Act, CPI, and/or additional CPR certifications are helpful.
Abilities: Valid California driver's license and insurability. Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to interact professionally with staff and the public. Effective oral and written communication in English.
Desirable Experience: Experience working with children with visual impairments (birth through 21 years) and severe disabilities. Teaching experience in general education settings and proficiency in Sign Language or bilingual skills.

EPIC Substitute Teachers provide high school level instruction to students who are age 18 and over during the absence of EPIC Teachers. May utilize remote instruction from learning centers throughout the state of California, principally in the following counties: Nevada County, Riverside County, Monterey County, Kern County, Los Angeles County (Antelope Valley), Merced County, Ventura County, and Butte County. Implement online multiple subject courses utilizing the Canvas learning management system.

Assign and grade online and in-class work, projects, tests and assignments.

Maintain and submit appropriate and required student records in a timely manner.
In coordination with the school counselor, provide information to students relative to employment, career opportunities and continuing education.

Conduct culturally relevant online classes appropriate for diverse adult students from a variety of cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and economic backgrounds.

Responsibilities for RSP Teachers
Provide instruction and support to students with special education needs to achieve IEP goals, as well as quarterly progress monitoring of each scholar's IEP goals
Ensure access to learning in the core program and guide progress toward standards and requirements.
Develop appropriate academic and behavioral goals based on Equitas Academy's standards and CA standards/Common Core

Understand guidelines for suspension and expulsion of students with IEPs and ensure procedural rights

Collaborate with administrators, teachers and instructional assistants in developing and monitoring the success of students in the general education program
Develop positive relationships with parents, engaging them in the IEP process by conducting interviews and conferences with parents and discussing student progress on an ongoing basis

Create and maintain notifications, records, files, and reports as required by federal, state and SELPA regulations

What Youll Do
As a City Year AmeriCorps member, your service will focus on coaching and
mentoring elementary, middle and/or high school students. You will help these
students earn academic success, improve their attendance, and develop positive
behaviors at school. You will plan and monitor individual student progress and
work with teachers on whole class instruction, breakout spaces and other in-class
student assistance.
Role and Responsibilities
Experience in all these tasks is not necessary. We provide 2-4 weeks of training at
the beginning of the year to support you. Plus, you will work with partner teachers
and school staff every step of the way.
Support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students:
Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups
Develop literacy and/or math skills varying learning activities by student level,
answering student questions and encouraging assignment completion
Create and implement a behavior management system for students
Develop interpersonal skills throughout their day, using proven strategies of
learning, practicing, reflection and repetition
Collaborate with teachers and team members to collect, record, analyze and
monitor individual student progress, participating in facilitated reviews of student
data collected and entered into City Years student data system Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher
Support Whole School initiatives to increase engagement with students and
families:
Support and/or conduct extended day and virtual programming for students
before, during and after school including, but not limited to, academic enrichment
and intervention, homework support, recreation and student clubs, service
learning, and leadership development
Create, support and/or co-lead events or programs that recognize and appreciate
student growth and/or achievement in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior
