Are you a licensed counselor looking to help youth in a wilderness setting? If so, working as a Family Counselor at Timber Ridge Treatment Center might be the right fit for you. *What is Timber Ridge?* Timber Ridge is a wilderness treatment center, designed to provide a 6-15 month program that rehabilitates at-risk boys between the ages of 12 and 17. We are located near the Uwharrie National Forest about 15 miles south of Salisbury, North Carolina. We are about an hour drive from downtown Greensboro.
Timber Ridge Treatment Center is accredited by the Joint Commission of Health Care Organizations, licensed by the NC Department of Facility Services, and accredited by the NC Department of Public Instruction. In addition, our center meets all requirements for Residential Treatment - High, Level III services.
A recent survey from the North Carolina Community Programs Administrative Services (ASO) was completed and Timber Ridge was found to be in full compliance with all standards.
*What is a Family Counselor?*
The family counselor functions as a therapist to provide individual, group, and family therapy as directed by the Programs Medical Director. Counseling may include specific skills training for residents and families, resolution of individual emotional or behavioral concerns, family counseling, or any combination of these areas.
Key components center around family contacts, therapeutic services for residents, case management, and documentation.
The Family Counselor strengthens relationships between the resident and his family members by:
* Providing parent orientation to the Timber Ridge program
* Offering family counseling at least once a month
* Providing parent education, including sharing information about resident's diagnosis, medication treatment, progress, on Parent's Day (one Saturday per month)
* Maintaining a therapeutic alliance with parents / caregivers through telephone calls, progress updates, and by scheduling therapeutic home visits
*The Family Counselor assists the resident with developing skills necessary to be successful, and addresses residents issues that are psychological, emotional or behavioral by:*
* Conducting individual counseling sessions at least once per month
* Assisting our Substance Abuse Counselor in coordinating drug and alcohol treatment.
* Participating in formulation of treatment plan and periodic review of treatment goals.
*The Family Counselor represents the residents interests outside of the program by*
* Acting as a liaison between Timber Ridge and the external treatment team (referral sources, Department of Social Services, Juvenile Services, Guardian At Litem, parents, etc.).
* Coordinating various services to meet residents needs (transportation, home visits, special requests, etc.).
* Representing the resident and present recommendations of the Timber Ridge Treatment Team in court appearances and other planning processes
* Participating in discharge planning to ease transition into the home community

Call volume is variable but is usually 2-4 calls per day
You will complete certifications from Dell and Lenovo as part of your onboarding. Certifications are online and free to you.
You must have a reliable form of transportation and a valid driver's license to run these calls. You will be visiting multiple work sites throughout your day.
You must have access to a computer and the Internet to log onto your portal each day.
You must be available to log into your tech portal each morning you are working by 9 am to code your calls and map out your route for the day.
The manufacturer has completed troubleshooting and shipped a part prior to your ticket being issued to you.
You will confirm service times with the customer in your tech portal. Services will be completed at the customer site (residential and commercial)
You will pick up parts daily from the assigned Fed Ex or UPS store for your territory before going onsite. Once all calls are completed for the day drop off the old parts with the pre-paid label that is provided.

Ensure immediate and appropriate interventions are provided in response to changes in mental status which may put individual at risk.
Document participant activities consistent with the service records manual. Write an event note that reflects participant activities, goals, interventions, and outcomes.
Develop service plans and/or person-centered plans as appropriate, and screens referrals in coordination with the other Assertive Community Treatment Team members.
Meet regularly to review the total caseload, problems-solve, develop plans, and determine daily duty assignments.
Attend and actively participate in meetings and training as required. Maintain certification in all agency, state and federal training requirements.
