1917

1924

Founded in 1924, the mission of the Summit County Historical Society of Akron, Ohio (SCHS) is to preserve and interpret the history of Summit County and Akron, and to educate regional communities about the people and events that have shaped the community's rich history.

1930

In the late 1930's, Goodyear, Firestone, General Electric, and others formed the National Basketball League (NBL). They gathered teams left over from the merger and formed the National Industrial Basketball League.

1999

The county's average income was just over twenty-nine thousand dollars per person in 1999, with 10.9 percent of the population living in poverty.

2000

Akron is the largest community in the county, with 217,074 residents in 2000.

2002

Playing host to the 2002 Winter Olympics reminded us that our history is still being written.
