Sun Valley Resort company history timeline
In 1936 Chairman Averell Harriman chose Sun Valley to build the county’s first destination ski resort.
They immediately got to work, and within eight months Sun Valley opened to the public in the winter of 1936.
Sun Valley Resort is America’s first destination resort, built in 1936 by the Union Pacific Railroad.
Construction started as soon as the snow melted in the spring of 1936.
A huge expansion followed in 1939 when Harriman approved the development of Bald Mountain, which loomed high on the valley’s west side.
The Village of Sun Valley was incorporated April 13, 1947.
In 1964, Union Pacific decided to get out of the resort business, and Sun Valley was purchased by Janss Corporation.
3 of the 39th Session of the State Legislature, which took effect in April of 1967, provided that all villages incorporated under the general laws of the State and operating with a Board of Trustees must commence to operate with a Mayor and Council.
In 1977, Janss sold to the Little America family under the ownership of R. Earl Holding, who has continued to expand the facilities.
Today, Sun Valley allows women and men to dress every day and every season in clothes designed according to the same fundamentals as since its creation in 1983.
At the start of 1986, Sun Valley continued its ascent and expanded its range of products, by developing a whole new universe : Surfwear.
In 2004, Sun Valley continues its ascent and becomes the official partner of the French Mogul Ski Team, carrying the brand at the top of the discipline.
In 2010, the brand confirmed its attachment to discovery and travel and the slogan "Created for Freedom ©" was then backed by the Sun Valley logo.
