Sunburst Ski Area company history timeline
This is the story of how a farm hill became a winter destination. It begins in 1961, when two families (the Christiansens and the Caseys) bought the land so they would have a place to ski together.
In 1984, avid skiers Kim and Jim Engel purchased the ski hill, and for twenty-eight years, they built runs and terrain parks, and established Sunburst as a destination for winter fun.
Today, Sunburst is owned by diehard skier Rob Friedl who purchased the ski hill when the Engels retired in 2012.
