1986

Nonetheless, flush with revenues of $327.5 million and profits of $8.8 million, the subsidiary entered 1986 both comfortable in the knowledge that it was the nation's largest music retailer and hungry for further expansion.

1987

The offering was postponed until February 1987, when 19 percent of Musicland was sold by parent company American Can (that same year, American changed its name to Primerica), the newly public firm dubbed the Musicland Group, Inc.

1990

In July 1990 the company entertained plans of going public, believing it could raise as much as $96 million in interest-free capital.

1995

The company closed more than 100 stores, including 19 Media Play outlets, and scaled back its expansion plans. It also shut down its St Louis Park distribution center, with operations there shifted to a huge new facility that had opened in Franklin, Indiana, in March 1995.

2000

2000: Musicland agrees to be acquired by Best Buy Co. for $685 million.

2001

In 2001, Best Buy purchased their then parent-company, Musicland, for $685 million.

2003

In January 2003, Best Buy closed 20 Suncoast stores as part of a larger closing that included 90 Sam Goody stores.

2006

In late March 2006, Trans World Entertainment Corp. completed the purchase of nearly all of the assets of Musicland Holding Corporation for $104.2 million in cash and $18.1 million in assumed liabilities.

2009

However, on December 26, 2009, they announced the closure of 150 Suncoast stores nationwide.
