2000 Kim Frimer becomes CEO of Sunrise Communications AG dSpeed, diAx’s sister company, purchases a UMTS license at the lowest bid of CHF 50 million Tele Danmark acquires a majority holding in Newtelco and diAx.

2001

2001 Sunrise introduces broadband offers with ADSL technology to the market diAx merges with Sunrise.

2002

2002 Sunrise launches its multimedia messaging service (MMS)

2004

2004 Hans Peter Baumgartner becomes CEO of TDC Switzerland AG Total revenue of TDC Switzerland AG exceeds CHF 2 billion for the first time

2006

At the end of January 2006, Nordic Telephone Company (NTC) acquired 88.2% of the shares of TDC A/S, Sunrise's parent company.

2007

In 2007 Sunrise purchased and upgraded the defunct cable systems that previously served Onaway, Hillman, Mullett Lake and Atlanta, Michigan.

2007 Sunrise launches T@KE AWAY. The affordably priced mobile broadband offer becomes a trendsetter and is copied by competitors Sunrise gets a new corporate design and simplifies its range of offers.

2008

On 29 September 2008, Sunrise announced the acquisition of the competitor Tele2 Switzerland.

2009

In November 2009, France Télécom and TDC announced the intention to merge their Swiss subsidiaries Orange Communications and Sunrise.

Sunrise achieves turnaround in 2009 fiscal year and passes the CHF 2 billion sales threshold

2010

On 22 April 2010, the Competition Commission (WEKO) prohibited the merger.

In September 2010, TDC A/S and the Luxembourg-based private equity firm CVC Capital Partners, announced that they had reached an agreement to purchase Sunrise through CVC for CHF3.3 billion.

The transaction was executed after approval by the Swiss competition and regulatory authorities on 28 October 2010.

2011

As of 1 November 2011, however, license rights expired on the name "Tele2", and it was changed to "Tele4U".

2013

True to that commitment, Sunrise invested in the cable plants and equipment in 2013 and added fiber backhaul and consolidated our headend facilities in Onaway.

In 2015 Sunrise went on the stock exchange.

2016

2016 Sunrise achieves highest score ever in a connect mobile network test and is first to be rated ‘OUTSTANDING’ in a network test and wins in the category „mobile network“ as well as in „mobile internet“ Sunrise successfully recertificated as a Cisco Gold Partner

The German telecommunication provider Freenet has been the main shareholder since 2016.

2017

BILANZ Telecom Rating 2017 confirms: Sunrise offers the best mobile communications

2018

Sunrise offers the best service and is the test winner of the connect Shop Test 2018

2019

On 27 February 2019, Sunrise Communications announced the planned acquisition of UPC Switzerland from the British media group Liberty Global for CHF 6.3 billion (around EUR 5.5 billion). Shortly after the agreement was signed, the main shareholder Freenet demanded renegotiations.

In September 2019, the Competition Commission granted its approval.

2020

In August 2020, Liberty Global announced that it will be acquiring Sunrise for $7.4 billion dollars.

2020 André Krause becomes CEO of the combined Sunrise UPC business as of 16 November.
