Summary/Objective: The Mechanic is responsible for the proper repair and maintenance of all company vehicles and equipment and for the safe and proper care of equipment assigned to the mechanic. Essential Functions: Maintain and repair automotive vehicles (such as trucks, tractor-trailers, pickups, cars, heavy equipment, and mounted equipment such as mixers and hydraulic systems) and stationary equipment (such as air compressors, welding equipment, and miscellaneous equipment) to company standards; recognize failure symptoms, trouble shoot, inspect, repair or replace, reassemble and test. Coordinate with Manager to ensure the proper parts and supplies are available when needed. Recognize potential problems before they occur and perform or order the necessary repair work. Coordinate with the Manager and other mechanics to get the work done. Complete all required paperwork accurately. Supervise the Mechanic's Helper ensuring that he/she performs all work as required and follows all company policies and procedures. Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe manner at ALL times. Wear all required safety equipment. Follow all safety guidelines and notify the Manager or Safety immediately of any current or potential safety issues. Perform all required inspections. Follow all environmental regulations. Dispose of chemicals, trash, etc. in designated areas. Recycle when required. Notify the Manager immediately of any current or potential environmental problems. Keep the shop area and all tools, shop vehicles, and equipment neat, clean, and in good repair. Clean work area at the end of every work shift. Maintain security of all company equipment and tools at all times. Notify the Manager of any problems. Drive shop vehicle to various plant sites, road calls or other sites of broken equipment. Drive broken and repaired equipment when necessary. Other duties as assigned. Non-Essential Functions: Pick up equipment or supplies. Train other employees. Fill in for colleagues as needed. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Work Environment: Work time will be split between indoors/shop and outdoors/field. Exposure to dust and fumes/offensive smells. Exposure to chemicals such as fuel, grease and oil. Close proximity to moving mechanical parts. Noise level will be moderate to loud. Physical Demands: Lift a maximum weight of 100 lbs., repetitively lift 25 lbs., carry approximately 100 lbs., and push/pull approximately 50 lbs. Reach overhead and reach away from the body, pinching and gripping. Walk 1 hour per day, stand 4 hours per day, kneel 1 hour per day, squat 1 hour per day, climb 1 hour per day, lay on back 2-3 hours per day. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Experience maintaining and repairing diesel engines. Special Skills: Written communication, verbal communication and basic mathematical skills. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to learn and use iPad, iPhone and company software applications. Certifications: Valid driver's license, CDL preferred. DOT certification. Must work well and communicate effectively with operator and other mechanics. Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and fit for duty test. Desired: Minimum of 3 years' experience in crane maintenance with proven troubleshooting skills. Experience in crane operations (CCO is highly desirable). Must work safely in a fast-paced environment - many times under pressure. Experience with Grove, Demag, Link-Belt and Liebherr cranes. Experience in diesel, gasoline and propane engines. Proven ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics. Creative thinking skills to make continuous improvements. Job Description Road Mechanic position is responsible for maintenance and repairs of on and offroad equipment and out on crew jobsites daily with occasional travel to the shop or office. Responsibilities Inspect and repair company equipment such as pickups, line trucks, trailers, excavators, compressors, boring rigs, off road tracked vehicles, etc. in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner Preform Road tests and operational checks of vehicles and equipment to ensure quality repairs and services Place orders for required parts materials and supplies as needed Prepare and maintain records and reports as required Maintain tools, supplies, workstations in a clean, safe, and presentable manner Provide support for fellow mechanics on a as needed basis Complete DOT inspections Ability to complete Tune-ups, Brake jobs (hydraulic and Air) Basic Wiring Ability to Safely use Cutting Torch and Basic Welding Skills Ability to work alone and unsupervised Perform other duties as requested or assigned by Lead, Maintenance Coordinator, and Fleet Manager Physical Aspects: The physical demands described here are typical of those that must be met by a team-member to successfully perform the essential functions of their job in powerline construction. Branch is searching for an entry-level and safety-oriented Mechanic to join our well-established, growing company. The Mechanic I is responsible for assisting with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of heavy construction equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, backhoes, graders, and haul trucks. This role works under close supervision of senior mechanics and supervisors to develop technical skills and ensure the safe and efficient operation of company-owned equipment. Duties/Responsibilities * Perform routine preventative maintenance (lubrication, oil changes, filter replacements, inspections). * Assist in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues. * Complete minor repairs and adjustments under supervision. * Maintain service records and accurately document work performed. * Inspect equipment for safety hazards and report deficiencies. * Use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and service manuals as directed. * Keep work area, tools, and shop organized and clean. * Follow company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental guidelines. * Assist senior mechanics with major component repairs (engines, transmissions, hydraulics). * Ability to work independently on routine tasks and as part of a team. Duties/Responsibilities * Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services, adjustments, and equipment overhauls. * Utilize diagnostic tools, service manuals, and electronic equipment to identify and resolve mechanical issues. * Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, electrical systems, and undercarriages on heavy construction equipment. * Repair and service equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, graders, loaders, backhoes, cranes, and other specialized machinery. * Weld, fabricate, and modify equipment parts as needed to maintain operational standards. * Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts usage in compliance with company procedures. * Adhere to safety protocols, PPE standards, and environmental regulations while performing work. * Provide guidance and mentorship to Heavy Equipment Mechanic I positions and apprentices. * Assist in road calls and field repairs to minimize equipment downtime. * May perform other related duties as assigned.
