JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible to lead one or more construction projects and for the management of the overall planning, scheduling, code compliance, cost tracking, safety, and completion of these projects. The Superintendent is responsible for directing and mentoring subcontractors and other on-site field staff. The position requires business management acumen and must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and time management skills, as well as have strong communication and team building skills. WORK HOURS: Weekdays 7 am to 5 pm; Saturdays 7 am- 1pm, as required. RESPONSIBILITIES: Assure the required permits and approvals from jurisdictional agencies are secured, posted, and renewed as required prior to starting work. Develop, update, modify (as required) and maintain the project schedule including a master schedule, 60-day look ahead schedules for their assigned trades, and two-week look ahead schedules for their assigned trades. Understand and be familiar with the date by which all materials must arrive on the job and convey that information to the project management team for preparation of the contract items lists and shop drawing schedules. Coordinate scheduling of subcontractors, vendors, and inspectors to complete each project on time. Communicate with and support each subcontractor to execute their job duties effectively and efficiently. Monitor work and materials to ensure quality control standards are met at various stages of the project. Perform inspections or schedule inspectors to meet the varying safety and compliance regulations of each job location. Prepare the daily construction reports in a thorough and timely manner and maintain a written daily log of visitors, job actions performed, materials expended, and problems resolved on the job site. Assure daily job progress photographs are taken in ample quantity to accurately depict the progress of the work. Travel between multiple job sites and simultaneously manage work loads of individual projects Understand and ensure risk controls are properly established and maintained. Understand and uphold the site safety plan. Understand and uphold the site logistics plan. Assure the implementation and continuous maintenance of corporate safety program requirements in all of the day-to-day operations on the project. Prepare and attend the weekly subcontractor meetings. Assist in maintaining the minutes of these meetings, and ensure they are recorded and distributed. Prepare and manage weekly safety meetings, regular toolbox talks, and safety pre task meetings as required. Attend weekly meetings with the project team for purposes of updates on the status of the field work and communication of any issues requiring the input or action of others on the project team, and for notification to the project team of issues that may be of importance or interest to them. Establish and maintain a system of document control to assure work is being installed in accordance with the latest design documentation and approved shop drawings. Communicate any issues requiring additional information from designers and consultants in a timely fashion to the project manager for issuance of RFI's. Assist in preparation of the monthly status report to be submitted to the lender. REQUIREMENTS: Requires Engineering, Construction Management or related Bachelor's degree, OR equivalent years of related experience. Requires 10+ years of experience in Stick-frame Multi-Family Residential Construction. Previous Sitework and Structured Garage Construction experience is preferred. Requires working knowledge of various construction disciplines, cost control, scheduling, safety regulations, engineering drawings and other documents required. Requires superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills essential both within the internal project team and externally with subcontractors, labor force, etc. Requires the ability to work with and have knowledge of the shop drawing submittal process. Position Overview: PKF-Mark III, Inc. is in search of heavy Civil Superintendents with 5+ years' experience as a superintendent, capable of supervising multiple field crews and subcontractors with regards to all project needs. The ideal candidate possesses strong personal initiative, excellent planning and problem-solving capabilities, effective interpersonal skills, and an unwavering commitment to safety. Responsibilities: Use leadership skills to motivate, assign, and direct all field crews on work tasks. Ensure all tasks are completed with the highest level of safety. Provide field supervisors with the information, tools, equipment and materials needed to complete their tasks safely, correctly, and productively. Monitor and track subcontractor(s) progress, managing budget and schedule expectations. Understand project specifications as it relates to your work items. Understand productivity and cost tracking for work tasks assigned. Utilize QA/QC processes to ensure that the quality of work completed on the project is of the highest obtainable level. Responsible for all construction related activities on their assigned project site operations. Able to recognize, and respond proactively to, differing site conditions, anticipated changes, and other unforeseen challenges. Maintain a high degree of understanding with respect to the submission of all required paperwork, submittals, material tracking and document control. Produce and deliver weekly safety reports. Manage manpower needs for your project. Position Requirements: 5+ years of experience working in the heavy civil industry, with a history of demonstrated responsibility as a superintendent. Ability to meet fast-paced, changing schedules and priorities. Keen awareness of industry recommended practices, OSHA requirements, equipment, and QA/QC. Microsoft Office proficiency Valid driver's license Ability to work on a team and lead all field operations at a high level. Monitor the condition and maintain CLA coastal and inland barges. Provide information to Engineering team to develop & maintain capital expenditure budget for the barge fleet, oversee repair & maintenance of equipment, manage purchasing and inventory levels. Develop work scope packages and oversee dry dockings. Monitor compliance of all documentation & regulatory requirements. Other duties as assigned by Management. Responsibilities Develop & maintain capital expenditure budget for barges. Oversee Vessel Repair and Maintenance Program for the barge fleet. Monitor compliance of documentation & regulatory requirements. Oversee dry docking & maintenance projects on barges. Vessel repair and maintenance costs versus budget. Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications. Perform in the company Spill Management team as assigned. Represent the company from a customer standpoint when needed Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Four year college education in Maritime or related studies or equivalent maritime experience. Experience in performing inspections of vessels to repair & maintenance standards and procedures. Extensive knowledge of oil barges. Knowledge of barge maintenance systems and equipment. Ability to communicate with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment. Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance. Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crew members. Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port. Two (2) years of increasingly responsible maintenance experience in the maritime industry Capable of making decisions and giving directions to facilitate prompt service delivery. Must be able to read, speak, write, type, and understand English in person and over the phone. HAZWOPER (including Incident Command System) training within 30 days of being hired. First Aid & CPR training. Valid Driver's license. Job Condition and Environment Frequently required to board tugs and barges, at dock or at anchor in all weather conditions and at all hours. Expected Hours of Work Normal office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Take communications 24 hours a day, including weekends, concerning changes in schedules and conditions.
