ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* The primary function of the position is to help create a culture that identifies, eliminates, and control hazardous conditions that may lead to injury and/or property damage using safety standards, best management practices, and analytical techniques along with Behavior based safety programs
* Direct and organize EHS-related projects for the site to include:

Serve as EHS Manager for site:

* Act as the Site Emergency Coordinator (training, evacuation planning, emergency response).
* Responsible for Environmental reporting and compliance.
* "Champion" the Safety Committee and act as a resource to sub committees.
* Oversee the facilities chemical management plan along with overseeing Safety Data Sheet (SDS) system.
* Responsible for leading cross-functional safety teams and work groups as required.
* Assist in the day to day activities and communications regarding Safety.
* Provide support to manufacturing and staff and focus on safety awareness, prevention and training.
* Assist Corporate EHS and site management in developing health and safety programs and procedures.


* Develop, maintain and disseminate a variety of safety information and training topics.
* Coordinate training program for both safety and non-safety related trainings.
* Conduct monthly plant-wide facility meetings.
* Conduct new employee safety/first day training.
* Conduct contractor training and audits.
* Organize off-site training (as required).

Compliance / Recordkeeping:

* Ensure OSHA, EPA and IDNR compliance.
* Meet compliance and reporting requirements of federal &/or state regulations.
* Maintain all site required documentation related to safety issues (i.e. accident reports, inspection reports, training logs, etc.).
* Maintain systems to track key EHS performance indicators.
* Generate "Status Reports" on an ongoing basis.
* Maintain EHS files for the Division.

Audits / Prevention:

* Risk prevention areas include hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires, or other unsafe conditions.
* Coordinate &/or conduct audits: EHS, Industrial Hygiene, Loss Control Incident Investigation, Plant Noise Sampling, etc…
* Formulate and suggest work safety standards, & enforces procedures.
* Works closely with facility management to quickly identify and address potential hazard or compliance issues.
* Review and implement recommendations/corrective actions from audits as agreed upon.
* Perform job site analysis, determine employee exposure, and institute safe work procedures.
* Conduct daily safety inspections, document findings, and implement corrective actions.
* Conduct regular program assessments and provide assistance for self-inspections.
* Maintain division programs: Boot, Safety Glasses, Hearing Tests, etc..

Incident Investigation:

* Reducing/Eliminating lost time accidents
* Conduct accident investigations.
* Advise management on problem correction.
* Complete, submit and maintain recordable injuries reports.
* Coordinate and assist with early return to work for lost time injuries.
* Investigate, review and implement corrective actions from incidents.
* Maintain incident data base and provide monthly summaries for facility.
* Analyze all accidents/incidents to ensure root cause identification and corrective action.

Any other responsibilities as assigned:

* Provide assistance in areas such as communication with employees and vendors, data compilation, preparation of reports, meeting minutes, etc.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (Engineering, Occupational Health, EHS Management) from four-year college or university is preferred, Minimum of 5-7 years' experience at a supervisor level in a manufacturing environment. Experience implementing EHS programs in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) regulations is required. Designation as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred. Must have experience interpreting regulatory requirements and implementing and coordinating OSHA compliance programs.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Review all PM's for mechanical Integrity compliance, ensure that all piping is labeled and valve numbers are in place and accurate.

Maintain all PSM documentation and training records that pertain to the PSM & RMP program.

Organize, schedule and conduct PSM meetings, compile and maintain PSM action item logs, assist in completing items on the action item log.

Inspect and maintain the Haz Mat equipment in accordance with 29CFR 1910.119

Set up training with the local fire departments, and the LEPC to include haz mat drills and tabletop exercises.

Participate in facility's Environmental Sustainability program


Minimum 1 year directly related experience

Knowledge of OSHA 1910.119 PSM Standard

Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, some knowledge of SAP software helpful

Knowledge of basic Standard Operating Procedures

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to work fractions, ratios and percentages

Ability to solve problems effectively and efficiently through standard procedures
