We are seeking to fill the PRN role of a PreOp/PACU Registered Nurse. If you have a heart for working in women's health and have the skills and experience below, we welcome your application! Hours: Ability to work at least 2-4 shifts per pay period and participate in the required weekend shift rotation. This includes a minimum of one Saturday shift and one Sunday shift per month.
Essential Responsibilities:
* Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served in the Facility. Must demonstrate the knowledge of the principle of growth and development of the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the Facility's policies and procedures.
* Demonstrates necessary practical, technical, or specialized skills required for the role of the peri-operative nurse in accordance with AORN and other regulatory standards of practice.
* Facilitates effective and efficient transition from Preop to OR and PACU to release
* Utilizes appropriate body mechanics in moving patients, stretchers, and OR tables to prevent injury to patient and self.
* Ability to monitor patient as anesthesia wears off and evaluate patient
* Properly communicates any post-op care instructions to patient
* Demonstrates knowledge of management of patient, including: being available to anesthesia during intubation and extubation, assisting as needed in sudden changes in patient condition and being readily available to assist as directed.
* Ensures that H/P, orders for the procedure, and consent form are consistent prior to placing in medical chart.
* Prepares and administers medications in accordance with current practice (i.e. review physician orders, pre-op antibiotics, preparing/labeling medications on/off field, utilizing the 7 medication rights, identifying high alert medications, conducting independent double checks when indicated, and narcotic waste, etc.). Assures only licensed personnel administer medications.
* Relays appropriate hand off communication to RN Circulator to ensure continuity of care.
* Demonstrates the knowledge and skills in the nursing process
* Demonstrates the ability to utilized recognized channels of communication.
* Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, coworkers, and other health team members.
* IV Skills preferred
* Others duties as assigned by manager
Education and/or Experience:
* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ASN or BSN).
* Two (2) years' experience as an PreOp and/or PACU Nurse preferred.
* Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
* Current BLS certification required.
* Current ACLS certification required.
* IV skills preferred.

Assess, instruct, and prepare patients prior to surgery
Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and correct
Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedures
Initiate IVs
Assess patients' post-operative condition

What's it like to work with KARE? Some typical responsibilities include:
Ensure that the individual service plan is followed; administer or supervise treatments prescribed by physician.
Make meaningful rounds to all residents, utilizing service plans; make rounds with physicians and record visits on charts.
Administer all intramuscular, sub-cutaneous injections; perform all in-house testing procedures; take and record vital signs.
Document acute episodes or significant changes in resident status.
Work with Activity Director, DON , and Nurse Aides in carrying out the activities program.
Handle the preparation and administration of prescribed medications.
Order all new medications and refills; administer all medications and chart.
Chart on his/her shift in accordance with facility policy, state guidelines and residents status.
Supervise serving of prescribed diets and fluid intake; report persistent unresolved problems to the physician and/or DON or appropriate discipline.
Timely and accurately prepare incident reports.
Timely and accurately complete admission assessments and appropriate discharge documentation.
Supervise residents who self-administer medication while following community and regulatory guidelines
Provide assistance as needed with medication reminders, bathing, grooming, dressing, escort service, and other activities of daily living.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements
Requires an RN license.
Ability to lift at least 51 lbs on a regular basis and ability to help residents who require physical assistance.
Fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
May require experience with caring for residents with memory impairment if assigned to memory care areas of a community.
