To be successful as an oral surgery assistant, you should be highly organized and attentive to patients' needs. Surgical Responsibilities: Assist Surgeon during consultations and treatment. Basic lab duties (Impressions, pouring up/trimming models). Proper instrument cleaning in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols. Autoclave operation and function. Surgical tray set-up. Identification of instruments used in the clinic. Room set up/break down for IV anesthesia and surgery. Seat patient and perform pre-op set-up. Review charts. Nitrous oxide set-up. Properly positioning restraints. Support airway for sedated patients. Ability to circulate and retrieve instruments. Excellent patient care & communication. Non-Surgical Responsibilities: Restock supplies, forms, handouts, and rooms. Take vital signs. Make follow up phone calls to patients. May take X-Rays. Properly closing and opening the office each day (Tanks, Suction, Xray) Greet patients and make them feel comfortable. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Current CPR/BLS certification required, may be able to obtain once hired. Dental X-ray license (Pano, PA, CBCT) required, may be able to obtain once hired. Great organizational and time management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances. Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude. Preferred Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant program preferred. Certification as a Surgical Assistant preferred.
