Position Summary The OR Surgical Assistant will provide intraoperative, perioperative, and supporting services to Dr. Berger in orthopedic surgical cases across multiple offsite locations. The role requires frequent travel, flexibility, and ability to work seamlessly across different surgical facilities. The Surgical Assistant works under the direct supervision of the orthopedic surgeon, collaborating with operating room teams, anesthesia, nursing, and support staff to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality patient care. Under the general supervision of the Manager of Perioperative Services, and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for filling the surgical scrub role on all types of minor and major surgical procedures dependent on individual competencies in each surgical specialty. Assists physicians and nurses in various medical and technical procedures. These functions must be in compliance with the philosophy of the hospital, standards of practice and regulations of governing agencies. Department: Ctr for Comparative Medicine Salary/Grade: NEX/14 Maintains the operating room, performs minor surgeries, fluoroscopic procedures, and major surgery under the supervision of the veterinary staff or qualified laboratory personnel. Provides anesthetic and peri-operative support and monitors post-operative recovery of animals undergoing surgery. Short Summary Within the OR managerial structure, the trained Operating Room Tech shall assist in nursing care activities under the direction of a registered nurse and according to the job description and policies of the department. The Operating Room Tech is assigned scrub duties and specific institutional nursing services duties concerning procedural knowledge/skills and the complexity of the patient's condition and/or the situation. Job Specifications Knowledge: * High School Diploma is required. * Surgical Scrub Tech Certification is required. * Can supply evidence through references of on-the-job training and experience as a surgical scrub tech preferred. * Previous experience as a surgical scrub technician required. * 3 + years experience. * Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery and General Surgery experience.
