PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To assist the surgical team, under the direction of a professional nurse, implementing skilled nursing care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients undergoing surgical procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs assigned procedures for comfort and well-being for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients,
demonstrating a concern for safety.
Assists in updating physician reference sheets.
Participate in the nursing care plans, functioning as an effective team member.
Demonstrates ability to scrub on all procedures, minor to major.
Communicates effectively to patients, families, employees, and physicians, utilizing both written and verbal
communication skills.
Responds appropriately to crisis situations as outlined in unit specific standards, initiates interventions within scope of responsibility; notifies RN.
Maintains required credentials of BCLS and mandatory inservice patients.
Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent,
adult and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret
information to identify patient needs, and provide the care needed.
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that
may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
Performs other related duties as required.
SCHEDULE:
Full time, day/evening shift, Range from 730am-11pm,
Primarily 7:30am-4:00pm but could work 2:30pm-11:00pm
Rotating Holidays and Weekends

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited, approved surgical technologist program with clincal hours completed for any employee hired after 2009
BLS Certification
SPECIAL or PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
BCLS certification.
Certification by an approved certification body i.e. the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) and/or the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) (CST) and 1 Year OR Experience

Summary:
Under supervision, assists in operations. May help set up the operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. May provide day-to-day guidance/direction to more junior staff.

How you will contribute
* You will determine donor eligibility; to include, proper management of informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
* You will evaluate donor reaction(s), which occurs at the facility as outlined in the SOPs. Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
* You will refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
* You will support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
* You will manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
* You can be a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.

* High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements

We are currently recruiting for a full-time experienced Surgical Technologist to work in our Operating Room at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
To assist the surgical team, under the direction of a professional nurse, in providing skilled care for any patient undergoing surgical procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates proficient clinical skills in the scrub role.
Demonstrates ability to scrub on a wide range of procedures.
Demonstrates solid knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the handling of instruments/equipment in the OR and aseptic technique.
Demonstrates openness to learning scrub techniques for new procedures and new instrumentation/equipment and receiving feedback concerning clinical skills.
Actively works with leadership to identify own learning needs and seeks opportunities to meet these learning needs.
Provides ongoing feedback to Perioperative Practice Coordinator (PPC) concerning preference cards and tray contents.
Demonstrates an ongoing concern for safety by adhering to established safety rules and practices
Responds appropriately to crisis situations as outlined in unit-specific standards, initiates interventions within scope of responsibility and notifies circulating RN of all issues.
Participates in the planning of care appropriate to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development
Functions as an effective team member, supporting the concept of team training.
Actively participates in unit activities
Communicates effectively with patients, families, employees, and physicians, both verbally and in writing.
Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
Performs other related duties as required.
Schedule:
3 Weekends per 4-week schedule. No Call. Some weekend/holidays
Saturday 0700-1900 - Some rotation to 1100-2330
Sunday 0700-1930 - Some rotation to 1100-2330
Only and 1 PRN per 4 week schedule
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited approved surgical technologist program for any employee hired after 2009.
BLS required (Basic Life Skills)
Hourly Pay Range: $19.84 - $29.76This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
