Assists in preparing suite for subsequent cases. Maintains aseptic techniques. Actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique. Assists with transferring the patient to and/or from the operating room. Assists members of the surgical team with gowning and gloving. Performs instrument, needle, and sponge counts. Assists in the maintenance and care of the specimens as directed and in accordance with standard procedure. Applies surgical dressings. Washes and prepares patient for transport at the end of surgery. Removes instruments and supplies from the operating room at the conclusion of the procedure. Returns all equipment and supplies to designated locations. Reports broken or malfunctioning equipment. Decontaminates instruments, supplies, and equipment according to established policies and procedures. Orders and stocks unit supplies on an ongoing basis. Updates and maintains physician preference information cards. Performs clinical duties to include answering phones, taking messages, running errands, and pulling the following day's cases.
