Clinical Support Technician II needed for Critical Care Unit (CCU). The CCU is an 18 bed unit that provides comprehensive medical and surgical care to the most medically fragile adults.
This position is located at the Hillsborough Campus. UNC Health Care Hillsborough Campus is a community hospital which is an extension of UNC Medical Center focusing on many of our elective surgical programs. The 163‐bed facility combines a community hospital culture with the innovative procedures and care for which the UNC Medical Center is known. The Hillsborough Hospital is located at 460 Waterstone Drive, Hillsborough, NC and offers free parking to employees.
Night shifts (7:00pm ‐ 7:30pm) with weekend and holiday rotation.
This position requires the ability to attend a week long orientation (Monday through Friday) which is offered every two weeks.

Summary:
The Clinical Support Technician II is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and / or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and performing a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of the patient care unit desk area functions. Performs patient care requiring clinical and procedural knowledge and skills requiring the use of sterile techniques, infusion monitoring, and medical equipment. Coordinates the flow of communications on the patient care unit. The Clinical Support Technician II may or may not be given a defined patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager / charge nurse. Tracks supply inventory, orders supplies and special items. Assists unit with clerical and administrative support including PI audits and data entry.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies.
2. Critically review patient care documentation making note of any significant changes in the patient's condition and make an immediate report to a registered nurse or physician.
3. Provide a variety of clerical tasks to include but not limited to organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting and directing visitors, researching information as requested by nurses and physicians, reviewing orders for logic and clarity, revising orders as requested by the nurse, answering the telephone/ patient call lights, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records. Perform routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies.
4. Provide administrative and clerical support including PI audits and data entry
5. Provide clinical support assistance to include, but not limited to, cleaning the work area, maintaining office equipment, troubleshooting common software and hardware problems, changing linens, checking supply inventory, re‐stocking supplies, transporting patients/ supplies/ specimens, and assisting in the orientation of new employees and students.
6. Provide direct personal care to patients as outlined in plan of care activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, assisting with ambulation. Measure and record vital signs, and patient height and weight. May be responsible for specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, and/or postural drainage. Performs Oxygen room set‐up and monitors oxygen flow‐rate, performs oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal suctioning, tracheostomy care, fecal impaction removal, sterile dressing change wound irrigation, IV fluid assembly and monitoring, IV site care and discontinue peripheral IV, ostomy irrigation and care, urinary catheterization and irrigation, performs established oral, nasogastric, gastrostomy tube feeding
7. Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions. Distributes patient education materials at the request of patients and/or health care providers

About the role:

You will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, management of donor adverse events, review of laboratory test results, and donor notification of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) works under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager as applicable) for operational guidance and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. The Medical Support Specialist will be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment. The Medical Support Specialist follows guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs and provides center level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS).
How you will contribute
* You will determine donor eligibility; to include, proper management of informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
* You will evaluate donor reaction(s), which occurs at the facility as outlined in the SOPs. Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
* You will refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
* You will support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
* You will manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
* You can be a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
What you bring to Takeda:
* High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
* Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic

The ADULT MEDICAL SURGICAL REGISTERED NURSE (RN) is a healthcare provider who through education and experience possesses a distinct body of knowledge and skills relative to the care of the adult patient across the lifespan who is experiencing general medical conditions or general surgical interventions. He/she applies general nursing knowledge in assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient response to general and specific conditions, general therapies and interventions. He/she initiates nursing care, health teaching, and health counseling that supports life and restores well-being. EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate School of Nursing.
LICENSURE
Current and unrestricted RN nursing license in the state of practice.
EXPERIENCE
One year of experience as an RN in an Adult Medical Surgical Unit in the last three years.
CREDENTIALS

Initiates emergency measures according to adult and client resuscitation protocols.
Maintains confidentiality related to patient, family, client facility and staff in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Provides patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.
Advocates patient rights with respect to advance directives and organ donation.
Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift, as needed based on individualized patient assessment.

Paramedics drive an ambulance to the scene of an emergency and apply necessary first-aid to sick or injured persons, and transport persons to a medical facility. Performs advanced lifesaving techniques assigned to the EMT-Paramedics by the N.C. Office of Emergency Medical Services. Tact, courtesy, and firmness are required in dealing with sick or injured persons and with the general public. Work is performed in accordance with established emergency medical procedures and techniques, but the employee must exercise considerable independent judgment in diagnosing a victim's condition and applying short-term relief. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Employees in this class provides rapid response to varying citizen request and emergencies, which result in the assessment of victims of accident/injury or medical condition and provides basic and advanced life support treatment. Provides for the safe transport of patients to local medical facilities, and provides medical documentation of medical assessment, treatment, and response to interventions. Prepares and maintains equipment for response to emergencies, as well as developments to ensure system coverage and timely response. Interacts with the general public, patients, medical professionals, and public safety personnel extensively in a multitude of situations, many of which are high stress and potentially life threatening. Assist with Public Health emergencies as needed including vaccinations, mass prophylaxis, and staffing mass clinics as needed and available. This includes distribution of antibiotics, vaccinations such as seasonal influenza, H1N1, and any other vaccinations deemed appropriate by the health department. * Checks condition and function of all vehicle systems and equipment at start of shift.
* Checks inventory and expiration dates of all medical supplies in med boxes and vehicular storage compartments.
