EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program
BLS required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Before an operation, surgical technologists help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures.
Follows center regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures.
Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as adjust and check it to ensure it is working properly.
Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants.
Hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. Help prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and help apply dressings.
After an operation, help transfer patients to the recovery room and clean and restock the operating room.
Maintain rapid and efficient operating room turnovers
Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are clean, sterile, and functioning properly.
Assist in draping the patient and maintaining a sterile field throughout the surgery.
Pass instruments, sponges, and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical staff during procedures.
Assist with positioning patients on the operating table
Assist team during medical emergencies
Maintain a clean and safe working environment by following infection control protocols.
Respond quickly to requests from surgical team members.
Adhere to center policies, procedures, and safety standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients in the center.
Must demonstrate the knowledge of the principle of growth and development of the life span and the possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the center's policies and procedures.
Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication.

Room set up/break down for IV anesthesia and surgery.

Qualifications
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCEOne year of acute care experience in an emergency services or related area.Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Korean) preferred (as applicable) Phlebotomy training course & certification Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training course & certification preferred LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONSCurrent Healthcare Provider BLSCurrent EMT certificate preferred California certification: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) I or Certified Phlebotomy Technician IIACLS preferred PALS preferred Management of Assaultive Behavior (completion within the initial 3 month period of employment)
