The Surgical Technician serves as a member of the healthcare team and provides technical support to the surgeon, registered nurse, and anesthesiologist in the operating room. Maintains integrity of instruments. Ensures proper counting of sponges, instruments, and sharps. Assists in gowning of other personnel and draping of patient. Anticipates surgeon's needs. Passes instruments to surgeon and/or assistant as appropriate. Communicates needs to circulators to ensure efficient and uninterrupted progress of procedure. Prepares and preserves specimens. Verifies name, strength, and dosage of medication with circulator; confirms, labels, and place on surgical field. Cleans and disinfects all tables, counter surfaces, stands, and floor. May help transport patient and restock the operating room.
