The Surgical Tech Coordinator provides leadership in knowledge synthesis, critical thinking, and problem solving, managing conflict, and addressing ethical issues. The Surgical Tech Coordinator provides equipment and supply planning for all procedures collaborating proactively with the surgeons, staff, and other unit leadership. The Surgical Tech Coordinator is responsible for ensuring equipment readiness, instrument planning for each procedure, preference card maintenance, custom pack maintenance and review, and regularly evaluates inventory for unused items in collaboration with Material Management personnel, the Charge Nurse and Unit Manager. The Surgical Tech Coordinator functions as a clinical expert for surgical procedures, and collaborates with the Unit Manager to coordinate an ongoing in-service education program to continually update knowledge and skills of all assigned operating room personnel. Able to: speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment pertinent to position; perform technical and supportive patient care activities; read preference cards accurately; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following policies; collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; discern temperature variances through touch; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to position. Licensures and Certifications: Surgical Technician certification preferred. Certification may be provided by either AST (Association of Surgical Technologists) or NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing). Basic Life Support certification required.
