This primary position at Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware may include opportunities at the Nemours Children's Health Surgery Centers in Pennsylvania (PA) and New Jersey (NJ) to optimize learning opportunities and capitalize on available preceptor resources. This position may require periodic rotation to Nemours Ambulatory Surgery Facilities in PA and NJ. Travel is compensated based on organizational policy. This position requires current Pennsylvania (PA) Clearances to include PA FBI Fingerprint Report, PA Criminal Background Record, and PA Child Abuse Clearance. This position requires working shifts aligned with the needs of the department, preceptor availability, and the assigned FTE of the surgical technologist extern. Responsibilities: Participates in scrubbing during operative and other invasive procedures by assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure. Participates in pre-procedure operating room set-up adhering to established reliable method. Participates in confirming, preparing, and organizing requested sterile supplies and instruments for procedures with inspection and confirmation of supply and instrument sterility. Participates in performing accounting procedures in concert with the surgical technologist preceptor and circulating nurse per organizational policies and procedures activating escalation and taking corrective action as needed. Participates in preparation and placement of sterile drapes. Participates in providing instruments and supplies in a safe manner to the surgical team during procedures. Participates in maintaining a safe and organized back table and sterile field. Participates in ensuring sterility of the surgical field activating escalation and corrective action as needed. Participates in providing sterile dressings upon completion of final surgical count. Participates in cleaning and preparing surgical instruments for processing and transport to the sterile processing decontamination area per organizational policy and procedure. Participates in post-procedure operating room turn over process adhering to established reliable method. Qualifications: Currently enrolled in high school surgical technology program to included didactic education and clinical simulation Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association is required within 90 days from the date of hire and maintained for the duration of employment.
