What you will do
Performs scrub duties to assist physician/surgeon during complex surgical procedures.
Makes available instruments in proper position and hands instruments/supplies to the surgeon as needed.
Assists the circulator in a timely and accurate preparation of room based on individualized patient assignment, by utilizing the physician preference card.
Assists the circulator to perform surgical counts by following the policy and procedure guidelines.
Prepares suture and dressing for surgeon use.
Maintains a sterile field for surgical services. Ensures adherence to the sterile field by applying principles of aseptic techniques.
Demonstrates initiative in professional development and continuing education. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization.
Serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to new and less experienced surgical techs. Assists with on-the-job training, education and competency validation to ensure technical expertise and compliance with continuing education requirements. Provides input to manager regarding training performance.
Maintains competency to scrub in multiple surgical specialties.

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for the daily activities and operations inside the Operating Room when handling sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment while also maintaining a sterile field following professional standards during operating procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assures that cleaning activities are ongoing, thereby consistently maintaining instrumentation needed for caseload.
Cleans and maintains operating rooms before and after surgical procedures. Maintains cleaning solutions and cleaning equipment.
Troubleshoot problems related to equipment, supplies, and service. Takes appropriate corrective action and informs manager when needed.
Exercise caution when using chemicals/cleaning fluids that are toxic or caustic.
Assures that solid/infectious waste is collected and delivered to the collection area in a timely manner.
Assists the OR team in lifting, positioning, transferring, and caring for the sedated/anesthetized patients in the O.R. and PACU.
Assists in monitoring patients for positioning safety-related issues under the guidance of the RN and notifies the RN of safety issues. Follows accepted recommended guidelines for moving, positioning, and holding limbs of patients.
Actively participates in the time-out process.
Transports requested items such as sterile and non-sterile supplies, SPD items, charts, records, and equipment between departments and surgical units in a timely manner.
Monitors operative schedule to ensure required supplies and implants are available.
Maintains principles of aseptic technique. Notifies team members when breaks in technique, occur and takes appropriate measures to correct breaks in technique.
Responsible for point-of-use cleaning for all surgical instruments, and break-down of surgical instruments and equipment before transporting them to the Sterile Processing Room.

• CPR for the Health Care Provider
• Good knowledge of the street systems, addresses and physical layout of the area, and of the rescue equipment and the emergency medical equipment used in Advanced Life Support.
• Good ability to:
• perform technical medical skills with a high degree of accuracy;
• understand and effectively deal with emotional and medical needs of victims of injuries, acute illnesses, or psychological emergencies;
• maintain a professional and objective approach to the care of ill or injured persons;
• learn new concepts in rescue and medical skills and techniques and in pre-hospital care;
• perform a variety of limited mechanical work involved in the use, testing and maintenance of rescue and medical equipment;
• direct the work of, and teach other personnel;
• understand and follow oral and written instructions and orders;
• maintain a professional attitude when representing the Company;
• establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, assisting agencies, hospital personnel, and the general public;
• drive and operate emergency ambulance units; and,
• author reports with narrative and numeric information.
• Additionally, incumbents must maintain a high degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency medicine, and must attend sufficient continuing education classes, courses, and seminars both on and
off
duty to maintain annual certification, as required by the state in which you will be working.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
The work requires the incumbent to operate emergency medical vehicles, move medical equipment and extract injured persons from a wide variety of situations. Situation can involve vehicular, industrial and residential accidents, injuries or illness and occur anywhere in our coverage area. At times the work requires movement over various types of terrain, (hilly, steep, rocky, rough, and/or wet/slippery surfaces). The incumbent at all times must be able to carry or help carry someone from the site of the injury to the mode of transportation (vehicle/helicopter) and attend the injured party to the hospital. In order to perform a physical assessment of the injured party, the incumbent must see, hear, and communicate with the injured party.
Incumbents will be issued and must wear Company issued uniforms while on duty; additionally, incumbents will be responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of uniform s, as well as all issued equipment.
Incumbents are required to carry a Company issued pager/radio at all times in order to receive immediate notification of an assignment.
