Utilizes the written individualized Physician Preference card for the surgical procedure.
Coordinates with circulating nurse to provide supplies, equipment and instruments for designated surgical procedure. Adheres to proper sterile technique. Conducts and documents sponge, instrument and needle counts and operating room time-out procedures.
Recognizes, intervenes and reports, as indicated, any changes in the patient's status in a timely manner. Promptly answers patient's needs and requests pre-operatively and inter-operatively.
Utilizes a working knowledge of current surgical scrub technology and medical terminology.
Coordinates with circulating nurse to continuously assess case progress and patient's safety. Utilizes appropriate charging mechanisms and assists with recovery of lost charges.

Be responsible for providing surgical scrub on all types of minor and major surgical procedures dependent on individual competence.

Interact appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background.
Use Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
Assist with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills.
Follow all equipment and safety guidelines and is responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment.
Serve as a resource to other members of the health care team.
