Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Certified Surgical Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, you will contribute to the company's mission and vision by assisting with the provision of safe and effective nursing care in accordance with a defined scope of practice within the operating room. This may include: direct patient care and observation, scrubbing and assisting the surgeon at the operative field, surgical room turnover between cases, collection and recording of pertinent clinical data in the medical record and consistent collaboration with the Registered Nurse in clinical decision making.
What you will do in this role:
* Demonstrate necessary practical, technical, or specialized skills required for the role of the surgicaltechnician in accordance with the Association of Surgical Technologists
* Assist in preparing the operative suite for surgery by checking and gathering supplies, equipment, and instruments
* Ensure that surgical asepsis ismaintainedin the handling of instruments, sponges, sutures,drains, needles, and dressings
* Assistin the turnover of the operating roomsuites between cases, disposing of trash and linens, and cleaning of equipment and environmental surfaces
* Prepare procedure room for use the following day by bringing in equipment, setting up, "pulling cases" accurately, and reporting to supervisor items that are needed and not available
Qualifications you will need:
* Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program as required per facility practice and state regulatory requirement; otherwise preferred
* Surgical Tech Certification
* One year experience in an operating room setting (preferably in an ambulatory surgery center)
* Valid BCLS Certification upon employment*Online certification not acceptable

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

• California: Must be Registered Nurse and be currently licensed in the state. Must be able to supervise processes and procedures, but not staff, of the medical screening and/or donor floor areas, per state regulation.
• New Jersey: Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse. Must always have a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse on staff during plasmapheresis to provide emergency care, per blood bank state regulation.
• Ohio: Must be an EMT-Intermediate, EMT-Paramedic, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse. Must have at least one (1) RN, LPN, LVN, EMT-P, or EMT-I always present in the Donor Center during plasmapheresis to supervise processes and procedures, but not staff, of the donor floor area, per state regulation.
• Washington: Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse. Must always have a Registered Nurse on staff during plasmapheresis to supervise processes and procedures, but not staff, of the medical screening and/or donor floor areas, per state regulation.
• One (1)-year experience in the hospital, field care, or experience in a plasma center preferred.
• Everyone performing moderate complexity testing must possess a current license issued by the state where the donor center is located, based on any required state regulations.
• Must successfully complete training program and competency assessments using OPI approved training modules or training curriculum.
• Must have excellent patient/donor assessment skills.
• Must be able to manage emergency situations in accordance with standard medical care practices.
• Maintain current and valid license and pass medical credential evaluation.
• Must maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Must be highly organized and have attention to detail.
• Possess effective physical and clinical assessment skills customer service, and people management skills.
• Ability to understand and follow SOPs and protocols.
• Must possess basic computer knowledge and skills. Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
• Demonstrate consistency and reliability (good attendance, punctuality, full effort throughout shift, flexibility with assigned schedule).
• Ability to work shifts consisting of day and evening hours, weekends, holidays and extended shifts on a frequent basis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Always utilize all required and appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
• Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to thirty-five pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel.
• Ability to perform precise tasks that require repetitive small motor skills, such as drawing blood for screening tests.
• Occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
• Ability to view video display terminal less than 18” away from face for extended periods of time, up to four (4) hours at a time.
• Enter an environment with a temperature of -40C or colder according to Standard Operating Procedures.
• Occasional exposure to and handling of dry ice.
• Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication.
• Physical ability to perform CPR and sufficient mobility to immediately assist in treatment of any adverse donor reactions.

Patient Related
Education:
Assist other health care members in providing patient specific detailed education regarding adequacy measures where appropriate - Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), and regarding disease process/access.
Treatment:
Welcome assigned patients and inquire as to their wellbeing since their last treatment.

Obtain Hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings.
Evaluate the patient prior to discharge.
Perform and record Pre and Post dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs with initial identification
Responsible for calculating and entry of individual patients' dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration (UF) goal; treatment time; and UF modeling as prescribed.
Responsible for ensuring appropriate safety alarms are enabled, including Narrow Venous Limits, (NVL) 160.
Record accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters onto the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
Responsible for accurate documentation of information related to patient treatment including completion of Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and, if applicable, progress notes.
Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition directly to the registered nurse or supervisor.
Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks according to facility policy. Report any change or unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor.
Perform and document any intervention for unusual patient status and document patients' response to intervention.
Evaluate patients' vascular access during treatment including arterial and venous monitoring pressures, provide appropriate intervention as needed, document and report any unusual findings to the registered nurse or supervisor.
Obtain all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
Ensure that all blood spills are immediately cleaned with appropriate disinfectant according to facility policy.
Prepare, organize, and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to prevent wastage.
Monitors patients performing self-care under the supervision of RN.
Staff Related
Assists in training of applicable direct patient care staff on appropriate programs under the supervision of a nurse.

Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding area between treatments according to facility policy.
Conduct all tasks necessary for preparation for dialysis treatment and document where appropriate and perform all required pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing including Pressure Holding (PHT).
Initiate Solution Delivery System (SDS) system.
RECORD KEEPING:
Complete and document ongoing participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
Enters all treatment data into the designated clinical application in an accurate and timely manner.
Review treatment sheets for completeness, ensure nursing signatures are documented, and ensure
omitted entries are completed or corrected by appropriate staff.
Prepare initial patient chart for admission and compile paperwork for appropriate placement in chart.
Prepare/print lab requisitions for prescribed or stat Lab specimens according to laboratory destination.
Collect, label, appropriately prepare and store lab samples according required laboratory specifications.
Ensure collection of lab specimens by appropriate lab courier.
INFECTION CONTROL:
Assists in collecting information for infection control audits.
Supports staff and patient Adherence to infection control practices.
Follows infection control Policies and Procedures
Participates in and reinforces infection control education of patients and families under the direction of the CM or designee as allowed by state law.
TRANSITIONAL CARE UNIT:
Follows all newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis and coordinating their transitional dialysis care
Reinforces all education and care related matters as it relates to the new patient as allowed by state law
Liaisons with appropriate FKC staff members to provide the best patient experience including making sure all disciplines are scheduled to see patient according to plan.
Assists in assuring patient understanding or home dialysis products, benefits of home and how home dialysis can work for them.
Sets and preforms a treatment on all machines used in the transitional care unit.
Assist in assuring patient understanding of treatment options including demonstration of the peritoneal dialysis set-up.
Assists with coordination of transition to patient's modality choice.
Assists with supply ordering and inventory for TCU

**Job Summary and Qualifications**
As a Certified Surgical Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, you will contribute to the company's mission and vision by assisting with the provision of safe and effective nursing care in accordance with a defined scope of practice within the operating room.
