The Certified Surgical Tech (CST) is responsible for handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary to assist the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Monitors PAR level of all surgical instruments and supplies. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedures ensuring quality patient care. The CST is also responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following established infection control practices as appropriate. Must be conscientious with regard to procedures and capable of working under pressure and interacting professionally with other departments within the hospital.
General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
Performs accurate assessment of surgery patients in regards to special needs during the surgical procedure; maintains knowledge of special instrumentation and positioning equipment needed.
Assists the RN with prioritizing care of each patient and overall patient load; assists the RN with the care of patients in the immediate post-operative care unit.
Informs RN/Surgeon if patient has any complaints during the surgical procedure.
Prepares and prints OR schedule and pulls cases for the next day; reviews policies and procedures and assists the RN with updating or creating new preference cards.
Prepares and properly labels medications being used on the back table during surgical procedures; informs surgeon of syringe contents before providing the syringe to the surgeon.
Accurately assist in the circulator role and maintains a safe operating room environment; scrubs for all types of procedures and maintains knowledge of instruments, sutures and equipment needed; effectively functions in the assistant role.
Checks OR/PACU equipment, including monitors, crash cart, sterilizers and warming units as assigned and per protocol; prepares instruments for sterilization and accurately operates all sterilizing units within the department; maintains knowledge and implements OR fire safety policy if required;
Accurately pulls and sets up for surgical procedures and alerts others of special needs not available at the time of pulling; operates all equipment in the OR needed for surgical procedures such as ESU units, Lights, Tables, monitors, warming devices, and other instruments required.
Functions in the central sterilizing department and properly cleanses, wraps and sterilizes all instruments to meet the surgical needs of the department.
Performs all aspects of the position in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors; utilizes established hand-off communication protocols.
Sterile Processing Competency
Performs a biological test on all sterilizing units with each load in the CS and immediate use sterilizer and daily in the Steris units.
Evaluates the effectiveness of sterilization; informs NCM if a biological test result is not compliant; pulls all sterilized instruments involved in the load in question.
Maintains accurate and up to date instrument set sheets for all departments; assists nursing staff to accurately log specimens in the Specimen Log book in the lab; prepares end of month reports for Central Sterilizing.
Cleans and inspects instruments completely and appropriately prior to preparing for sterilization; prepares instrument sets and individual instruments for all areas of the hospital; correctly operates all sterilizing units in the Surgical Services Department; delivers clean and sterilized instruments/equipment back to appropriate departments.
Checks sterilizing equipment to ensure proper functioning; prepares instruments for sterilization; maintains knowledge and implement OR fire safety policy if required.
Performs all aspects of the position in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors; utilizes established hand-off communication protocols.
Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Participates in performance improvement activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Summary:
The Certified Surgical Tech provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. In addition to intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. The surgical assistant to the surgeon during the operation does so under the direction and supervision of that surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations.

Review surgical consent, confirming procedure and special needs
Select and display x-rays for surgeon's reference
Assist in moving and positioning of patient, including placement of pneumatic
tourniquet if needed
Actively participate inSurgical "Time-out"
Drape patient within surgeon's guidelines
Provide retraction of tissue and organs for optimal visualization with regard to tissue type and appropriate retraction instrument and/or technique
Assist in maintaining hemostasis by direct pressure, use and application of appropriate surgical instrument for task, placement of ties, placement of suture ligatures,
application of chemical hemostatic agents, or other measures as directed by the
surgeon
Use of electrocautery mono and bi-polar
Clamp, ligate and cut tissue per surgeon's directive
Maintain competency on all new surgical equipment and devices
Maintain integrity of sterile field
Close all wound layers (fascia, subcutaneous and skin) as per surgeon's directive
Insert drainage tubes per surgeon's directive
Select and apply wound dressings
Assist with resuscitation of patient during cardiac arrest or other life-threatening events in the operating room
Perform any other duties or procedures incident to surgical procedures deemed necessary as directed by the surgeon
Maintain knowledge of job-related duties working within the hospital's policies and procedures.

What will I do as an EMT-Basic?
An EMT provides emergency medical care and transportation to patients who access the EMS System. The EMT is trained to assist higher certified technicians, including paramedics, in the treatment of patients. In non-emergent situations, the medical response team provides transportation to patients who require an ambulance because of a medical condition.
Job Duties:
The EMT will satisfactorily perform all skills and procedures as designed by the Indiana EMS Commission curriculum.
While on duty, the EMT will practice his or her skills and fulfill his or her duties within the Indiana scope of practice and the Standard of Care, any physician order, or any direction by a higher medical authority.
The EMT will respond to EMS calls as assigned by the communications center observing the policies of Trans-Care on “out of chute” and “end of shift” time.
The EMT will know and follow all Trans-Care policies and procedures regarding normal operations and treat all Trans-Care customers, patients, fellow employees and/or vendors with honesty and respect according to Trans-Care's Code of Conduct.
The EMT will observe a strict standard of patient confidentiality regarding the access, possession or transmission of Personal health information (PHI) per Trans- Care's privacy policies designed to protect such information from access by unauthorized persons.
The EMT will safeguard the privacy of all patient protected health information in accordance with Trans-Care privacy policies, procedures and practices, as requested by federal and state law, and in accordance with Trans-Care policies of professionalism as a health care provider.
The EMT will report any concerns regarding real or possible breach of policies and procedures regarding patient confidential information and any observed practices by fellow employees which appear to violate these policies and/or procedures to the Privacy Officer at his/her earliest opportunity either in person, by email or anonymously as provided by federal regulation.
The EMT will be courteous and professional at all times while on duty. Prior to each shift and in accordance with Indiana law, the EMT will account for, check operability of, and be responsible for certifying that all required and basic equipment are operation, functional and located on her or her assigned unit.
The EMT will maintain his or her in-service education as prescribed by the Indiana State EMT Agency.
The EMT will operate his or her assigned vehicle and personal conduct under the laws and riles of the State of Indiana and the safety policies of Trans-Care including but not limited to procedures designed to enhance and provide the crew and patient safety at all times.
The EMT will submit documentation that is complete, accurate and timely prior to leaving his/her shift at the designated time for departure.
The EMT will help maintain a clean and hazard free work environment by performing such cleaning chores as requested both on or in a vehicle and station.

The Certified Surgical Tech (CST) is responsible for handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary to assist the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Monitors PAR level of all surgical instruments and supplies. The CST is also responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following established infection control practices as appropriate. General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
Performs accurate assessment of surgery patients in regards to special needs during the surgical procedure; maintains knowledge of special instrumentation and positioning equipment needed.
Assists the RN with prioritizing care of each patient and overall patient load; assists the RN with the care of patients in the immediate post-operative care unit.
Informs RN/Surgeon if patient has any complaints during the surgical procedure.
Prepares and prints OR schedule and pulls cases for the next day; reviews policies and procedures and assists the RN with updating or creating new preference cards.
Prepares and properly labels medications being used on the back table during surgical procedures; informs surgeon of syringe contents before providing the syringe to the surgeon.
Accurately assist in the circulator role and maintains a safe operating room environment; scrubs for all types of procedures and maintains knowledge of instruments, sutures and equipment needed; effectively functions in the assistant role.
Checks OR/PACU equipment, including monitors, crash cart, sterilizers and warming units as assigned and per protocol; prepares instruments for sterilization and accurately operates all sterilizing units within the department; maintains knowledge and implements OR fire safety policy if required;
Accurately pulls and sets up for surgical procedures and alerts others of special needs not available at the time of pulling; operates all equipment in the OR needed for surgical procedures such as ESU units, Lights, Tables, monitors, warming devices, and other instruments required.
Functions in the central sterilizing department and properly cleanses, wraps and sterilizes all instruments to meet the surgical needs of the department.

Sterile Processing Competency
Performs a biological test on all sterilizing units with each load in the CS and immediate use sterilizer and daily in the Steris units.
Evaluates the effectiveness of sterilization; informs NCM if a biological test result is not compliant; pulls all sterilized instruments involved in the load in question.
Maintains accurate and up to date instrument set sheets for all departments; assists nursing staff to accurately log specimens in the Specimen Log book in the lab; prepares end of month reports for Central Sterilizing.
Cleans and inspects instruments completely and appropriately prior to preparing for sterilization; prepares instrument sets and individual instruments for all areas of the hospital; correctly operates all sterilizing units in the Surgical Services Department; delivers clean and sterilized instruments/equipment back to appropriate departments.
Checks sterilizing equipment to ensure proper functioning; prepares instruments for sterilization; maintains knowledge and implement OR fire safety policy if required.
