As a Medical Technolgoist at MercyOne, you will perform clinical testing of laboratory specimens to provide accurate and reliable data for clinical assessment of patients. Serves as a resource to others regarding theory and clinical testing. Adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne.
1. Obtains proper specimens for testing.
* Verifies patient identification.
* Obtains correct specimen with minimal trauma and correctly labels specimen per laboratory guidelines.
* Correctly processes specimen for testing.
2. Performs clinical testing of laboratory specimens and reviews data for clinical correlation.
* Verifies identification of specimen.
* Performs testing on appropriate analyzer when applicable.
* Performs non-analyzer testing per laboratory protocol.
* Uses knowledge of body chemistry to review data for clinical correlation.
* Informs customer promptly (physician, nursing staff) of any critical values and documents.
* Results testing in computer system.
* Reviews all computer print-outs for accuracy.
3. Performs quality control testing on all analyzers and analyzes and interprets results.
* Determines proper quality control specimens to be run.
* Checks all quality control specimens for dating and storage.
* Performs testing on quality control specimens per laboratory protocol.
* Reviews data to judge proper performance of instruments and reagents.
* Uses data for troubleshooting when needed.
* Logs all QC data per laboratory specifications.
* Provides QA/QI data to lead or manager. Performs parallel testing on new reagents and controls, as needed.
4. Troubleshoots instrumentation and assays.
* Uses quality control data to assess proper functioning of instruments and reagents.
* Identifies source of problem (instrument or reagent).
* Consults operator's manual for troubleshooting instructions.
* Follows manufacturer's guidelines for specific troubleshooting procedures.
* Consults manufacturer's hotline if unable to resolve.
* Documents all procedures used to resolve problems.
5. Serves as a resource on clinical laboratory testing.
* Maintains current knowledge of theory and testing.
* Consults with customers (i.e., patients, physicians, other laboratories) on clinical laboratory testing.
* Provides technical support to other laboratory personnel.
* Provides assistance with laboratory computer system.
* Oversees daily operations in manager or leads absence.
* Serves as a resource to physicians, nurses and laboratory staff.
* Mentors others in relation to laboratory theory.

* Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, science, or related field

As a member of the interdisciplinary Electrophysiology Lab team, contributes professional Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients undergoing invasive cardiac procedures. The CST will function in collaboration with the RN staff and under the direction of physicians. The CST is able to perform the role of assisting circulator, scrub tech, and monitor.

Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
Assesses the needs of patients and families undergoing invasive cardiac procedures, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
Assists the physician with the development of an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient's care.
Delivers high quality care while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required in the Electrophysiology Lab in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care under the direct supervision of the physician.
Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.
Utilizes critical thinking in making judgments, and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of the patient.
Demonstrates and maintains proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required in the administration of emergency medications used in the Electrophysiology Lab including under the direct supervision of the physician.
Demonstrates and maintains proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required to operate specialized equipment in the Electrophysiology Lab including, but not limited to the following:
Point of care testing: activated clotting times (ACT), oxygen analysis
Ablation equipment: recording and mapping systems
Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM): programmers
Advanced hemodynamic monitoring systems
Demonstrates and maintains proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required to prepare and maintain sterile fields and to maintain a clean procedure environment.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of radiation safety and practice including, but not limited to the following:
Use of advanced imaging systems used in the Electrophysiology Lab setting
Use of radiation protection devices and exposure levels for both the associate and patient.
Development & Patient Education
Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance CST practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient's and their families' age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.

Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program
Current certification and in good standing as a surgical technologist through a nationally certifying body such as NBSTASA or NCCT.
Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within 3 months from hire date.
Must possess and maintain hospital CORE (Chain of Response in an Emergency) certification with 6 months from hire date.
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Job Summary
Assesses injuries, administers emergency medical care, and performs the duties of Security Officer.
Essential Job Duties
Properly responds to, handles and controls emergency and medical situations in a calm professional manner.
Assess nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures.
Administer first-aid treatment and life-support care to sick or injured persons in pre-hospital setting.
Calls for ambulance when needed or when requested by guest or employee.
Operates equipment such external defibrillators and bag-valve mask resuscitators.
Comforts and reassures patients.
Documents all medical situations. Required to sign all medical reports when performing as a primary or ancillary caregiver.
Performs regular Security Officer daily duties.
Communicates and networks effectively with staff, other departments, and outside representatives in order to maintain a productive and effective department operation.
Safeguard and account for the assets of the owners.
Comply with policies and procedures required by the department, the company, the Sac & Fox Gaming Commission, and the National Indian Gaming Commission.
Monitor the casino environment and follow established safety procedures to provide for the safety of guests and co-workers.
Work respectfully and effectively as part of the company team to ensure guest satisfaction, asset protection, and co-worker respect.
Report to work on time and as required in professional attire, display a high level of personal cleanliness and follow personal appearance standards.
Supplemental Job Duties
1.Attends all required meetings and training sessions.
2.Stays informed of medical updates for the best quality care of guests and employees.
3.Has signatory authority for medical/incident reports, necessary paperwork needed for employee medical, fill, credit, and jackpot slips.
4.Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
May be exposed to loud and continual noise levels and a smoke filled environment. Performs physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling and reaching. Long periods of standing and walking. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to keep information confidential.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Knowledge/Education/Work Experiences: High School Diploma or GED preferred. Certified Iowa EMT/or current Registered Nurse with up to due credentials, and prove use of skills and equipment described above to meet an Iowa EMT-B level non-transport service and preferred one (1) year experience. Must be able to obtain a gaming license in accordance to the regulations established by the Sac & Fox Gaming Commission.
At interview must be able to pass a basic math test of 11 word problems missing no more than 4 problems. If the first test is failed, a second will be given with no more than 4 of 10 answers to be missed.
Skills/Abilities: Must be able to work directly with the general public. Requires the ability to see details at close range and from a distance. Must be able to handle busy and stressful situations. Requires good reading and writing skills. Must be capable of reading and understanding policies, procedures and memos. Must be dependable, courteous and reliable. Must be flexible with work shifts and days off. Must have good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to meet all non-supervisory training and education requirements.

Restrictions
This position is PROHIBITED from playing all casino games while on duty, except as authorized for employee tournaments. Otherwise, this position may play any casino game when off duty. The Care Giver/Med Tech role includes providing hands on care, physical and emotional support to each resident while maintaining a safe and comfortable home like environment.
Responsibilities:
Care Giver:
Responsible for a designated group of residents during the shift; knows where their residents are and physically checks on them throughout the shift.
Observes, reports and documents symptoms and conditions of residents for changes in condition such as skin, behavior, alertness, weight, dietary and participation in activities.
Responds to security system and resident call bells promptly.
Notifies supervisor and/or Health Care Coordinator if a resident has increased care needs.
Assists with continence management and disposes of all continence products properly to ensure sanitation of resident suite and community restrooms.
Serves and collects food trays and assists as needed; reports refusal of meals or loss of appetite.
Maintains cleanliness of resident's room and work areas.
Practices good standard care precautions of cleanliness, hygiene and health.
Helps residents maintain independence, promotes dignity and physical safety of each resident.
Actively participates/leads and assists residents with activities of daily living (i.e. bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, ambulation, transferring, eating) as instructed.
Engages residents in life skills and other life enrichment activities.
Greets and assists all internal and external customers, guests, family members, residents, vendors and team members.
Does resident laundry as assigned and needed.
Medication Tech duties:
Reviews service plan to learn pertinent information about residents.
Assists/observes medications and treatments for each resident using the medication observation record and the Six Rights of Medication Pass.
Documents and initials form as medications are given including appropriate documentation for refusal or missed doses.
Maintains confidentiality of all resident information including resident medication.
Reports all resident concerns made while assisting resident with the medication to the Nurse and/or Health Care Coordinator (HCC).
Restocks medication cart after all medication passes.
Assists in checking medication regardless of packaging system.
Counts all narcotics with another Medication Care Manager or Nurse each shift.
Maintains and cleans the Medication Room, med charts, treatment carts for neatness cleanliness, availability of medications and expired medications.
Follows re-fill process for medications.
Participates in the development of the Service Plan and monthly updates.
Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse and respiration rates.
Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, sharp sticks and hazardous chemicals immediately.
Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications:
Certified Nurse's Aid certification preferred.
High School diploma/GED
Must be 18 years of age.
CPR Certification preferred
First Aid Certification preferred
Previous experience working with seniors preferred.

Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements
A High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Requires a CMA license
Ability to lift at least 51 lbs on a regular basis and physically able to help residents who require physical assistance
Read, write, speak and understand the English language.
May require experience with caring for residents with memory impairment if assigned to memory care areas of the community

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
