Swinomish Tribe, a community of Coast Salish peoples, are descendants of groups and bands originating in the Skagit and Samish River valleys; the surrounding coastal areas; and islands, including Fidalgo, Camano, Whidbey, and the San Juan Islands.

Job DescriptionWe are currently looking for a Surveillance Observer to join our team. The Surveillance Observer requires a certain level of expertise, through experience and special training, which qualifies him/her as knowledgeable in casino operations, internal controls, surveillance systems, game protection, cheating techniques, and methods of observation. In addition, he/she must possess a high level of knowledge and understanding of Tribal/Federal minimum internal controls relations, the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA), and the Tribal/State Compact.
This position will require testing to ensure that the applicant meets the qualifications and skill sets needed to be successful. Testing will include both a gaming knowledge and report writing component.
Essential Duties:
- Uses provided equipment in the overall protection of casino property including any of the surrounding tribal property
- Ensures that the gaming operation complies with internal controls, Tribal/State Compact for Class III gaming, and Tribal/Federal regulations for Class II gaming
- Observes, investigates, and reports all violations that come to their attention during the course of their duties to their immediate supervisor and the tribal gaming agent on shift
- Completes detailed reports involving incidents of cheating and/or theft using the audio and video equipment provided
- Helps casino personnel and agents from other jurisdictions as required
- Functions as a diplomat and represents the Casino in all dealings with representatives of other jurisdictions and recognizes and respects the “government to government” relationship that exists between the Tribe and state
- Ensures audits, checklists, and other documentation associated with specialized gaming activities are completed
- Helps investigate infractions dealing with internal controls, casino procedures, gaming regulations, and Tribal ordinance violations occurring within the property of the Swinomish Casino
- Documents, examines, maintains, and properly accounts for audio and video evidence of illegal activity to assist in official hearings, trials, arbitration hearings, etc.
- Testifies in procedures cited above as required
- Helps with investigative efforts with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, which may involve verbal and/or written presentations using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Plays an integral part in the safety of guests, employees, and the security of the casino
- Works varied shifts, odd hours, and frequently late at night
- Maintains confidentiality of all information gathered
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills/qualifications:
- At least two years of experience or specialized training in the surveillance field or at least two years of experience working in the gaming industry required (must show proof of experience or training)
- A strong background in a regulatory environment with experience in detecting infractions in internal controls, gaming laws, and tribal ordinances through observations of behavior is desirable
- Due to the highly sensitive information that is gathered, confidentiality is very important
- Knowledge of computers is required to complete assigned audits and reports
- Must be able to work varied shifts, odd hours, and late at night
- Must have good language and presentation skills
- Must have basic math skills
- Must be willing and able to pass all pre-hire testing as required
- Must be able to maintain a Washington State Class III Gaming License
