In this role you will lan and coordinate land survey work activity within the assigned territory. Responsible for coordinating diverse survey activities of staff and field crews and vendors while providing advice to project teams. The primary functions will be to coordinate Vendor activity including preparing RFPs, assist with hiring from the approved vendor list, schedule/review/approve all deliverables and invoices. Regularly oversee the survey work of assigned support staff and vendor crews. This individual may also attend project meetings, provide oversight on all Survey related tasks, proving to be an advocate for the department, providing the highest quality and integrity for daily tasks.

Essential Functions
Coordinates all Survey related work within assigned territory by both internal employees and external vendors. Assists with reviewing the work of Vendor; reviews and approves vendor invoices.Provides direction and training on Utility specific survey work to Vendors as required.Prepares RFPs, may assist with selecting and hiring Survey Vendor (from approved Vendor list), ensures all Vendor survey work is being performed within the scope of services, including schedule.Reviews all Survey requests to determine the appropriate resources needed to efficiently complete the task.Acts as the point of contact for all internal and external customers.Provides survey related project status to the project teams or other business partners as required during all survey related phases.Performs calculations, research, field and office tasks to support the accurate location of company property boundaries and rights of way.Retains all required paperwork and Vendor deliverables to ensure recoverability if needed Performs limited Real Estate functions including field investigations and reports.

Qualifications
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
Demonstrate high standard of professional technical competence Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, techniques, and latest instruments of land surveying.Knowledge of civil engineering principles and terminology relevant to the practice of land surveying including construction methods, engineering plans and specifications is required Thorough knowledge of safety rules Knowledge of Land Surveying, mapping, legal documents, and real estate terms, familiar with standard concepts and practices Must have a basic understanding of property law Knowledge of State statutes and regulations governing surveying and mapping including subdivision Land Court (MA only) and AUL areas. Must have a strong background in boundary surveying Ability to write clearly and concisely Ability to provide customer service that meets or exceeds company standards Must Demonstrate the ability to coordinate groups as well as to work independently AutoCAD experience is required; experience with Civil 3D is preferred Must have experience with Total Stations, Data Collectors, GPS equipment and related software
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Survey engineering or survey engineering technology or equivalent
Experience:
Five (5) plus years of progressive field and office experience associated with all aspects of land surveying
Licenses & Certifications:
Licensed Land Surveyor preferred.Valid driver's license required.

Role description:

At times you may perform deed research, write legal descriptions, evaluate historical boundary line resolutions and ensure high level quality of third-party survey deliverables. This position is responsible for receiving and scheduling survey assignments, processing or evaluating field data and quality control of CAD preparation and final mapping. Final mapping may include boundary, topographic, planimetric or design related deliverables. The position will entail fast-paced work on rail, DOT and design projects across multiple states, often simultaneously

Role accountabilities:

* Client interface on diverse rail related projects
* Leader in high-level Quality Assurance role
* Perform and/or oversee survey related calculations
* Review of plats and legal descriptions for real estate closings
* Oversight of field operations and scheduling
* Perform deed research, especially historic
* Proficient in processing, evaluating and mapping survey field data
* Possess strong CAD production and/or analytic skills
* Expert in quality control and accuracy of complex property boundary resolutions
* Ability to read, write and interpret complex and historical property legal descriptions
* Ability to perform deed research, both online and at local jurisdictions
* Ability to deliver superior quality and accuracy in work for high level clients
* Adept at scheduling survey projects and deliverables to meet client deadlines
* Travel is variable depending upon business needs but anticipated with an approximate level of 5%

Required Qualifications:

* Licensed Professional Surveyor
* 10 or more years relevant survey experience, including a minimum of 5 years' experience in responsible charge of complex field-to-finish survey deliverables

Preferred Qualifications:

* Licensed or ability to acquire licensure in multiple states in the southeast US
* Experience with railroad property and right-of-way determinations
* Experience with Civil 3D and AutoCAD
* Experience with MicroStation
* Knowledge in using ArcGIS or ESRI applications
