Summary:

Perform various surveying related tasks in order to produce precise and accurate results in a timely manner.

Essential Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

* Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and various electronic data collectors
* Position and hold surveying rods to locate and record measurements
* Measures distance between survey points, using steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain
* Places stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation, using hammer or hatchet
* Cuts and clears brush and trees from line of survey, using brush hook, knife, ax, or other cutting tools

**Overview**

Responsible for assisting the Party Chief in creating surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way and control survey tasks and engage in the planning phase with local officials, supervisors, engineers and contractors.

**Responsibilities**

+ Record the results of surveys including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features; transmits survey data to the proper files in the computer network, and be able to acquire the data for field use.

+ Calls out reading or writes station number and reading in notebook.

+ Marks points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark.

+ Measures distance between survey points with steel or cloth tape or surveyor's chain.

+ Marks measuring points with markers, paint sticks, tacks, scratches or stakes.

+ Verify the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.

+ Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy.

+ Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain or current installations.

+ Compute geodetic measurements and interpret survey data to determine positions, shapes, and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features.

+ Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas using theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS).

**EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:**

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:**

+ Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles

+ Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals

+ Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals

+ Must have a developing knowledge of layout and survey work

+ Ability to understand and follow directions.

+ Must be at least 18 years of age.
