In 1889, Hugo Theorell formed Theorell Installationskonsult AB and focused on constructing systems for ventilation and heating.
Our services in water systems was in demand already in 1902, when Johan Gustaf Richert formed Vattenbyggnadsbyrån AB (VBB). The innovations of VBB spread across Sweden as well as the rest of the world such as Kuwait, Egypt and India.
Robert Ziegenmeyer – 1946
The cradle of our organisation Under the name Belgroma, Sweco already started in Belgium in 1956.
Robert’s son Arden joined the company in 1971 as the vice president.
Robert Ziegenmeyer was presented with the 1980 California Rice Industry Award for his numerous designs and changes in designs he had made in the rice farming equipment industry.
Robert left control of SWECO to his wife, Maria, and two youngest sons, Michael and Robert Jr., who both joined the company in the mid 1990’s.
In 1992, BnS Engineering joins the group.
In 1997, FFNS acquired VBB and formed Sweco.
Robert Ziegenmeyer passed away January 4, 2000 at the age of 79.
Raymond A. Ziegenmeyer was appointed president in 2007.
In 2012, the various entities (Grontmij Vlaanderen, Grontmij Industry, Libost-Groep and Grontmij Wallonie) were merged into the operating company Grontmij Belgium.
In 2015, Sweco acquired the Dutch engineering consultancy firm Grontmij.
