This position requires a valid Alaska teaching or type M certificate. The position has a retirement association with the Alaska Teachers' Retirement System (TRS). Job Requirements The following is required: An Alaska type M teaching certificate. If the instructor is enlisted, a high school graduate or equivalent based on a state-issued certificate of GED test is required. Preference will be given to college graduates with other qualifications, to the same degree as other applicants. If the instructor is an officer, a bachelor's degree or higher is required. This qualification may be waived for a period of 4 years from the time of initial hire, if Anchorage School District authorities agree, while the instructor works toward obtaining a bachelor's degree. Must meet service requirements and background review for JROTC instructors and be certified as outlined by the appropriate military branch to be considered for a JROTC instructor position. Must have attained the following grade and status: For retired enlisted members E6 to E9 and for retired officers O3 to O6, be retired with at least 20 years of active duty, and must not have been retired from active duty for more than five years at the time of employment. For active duty members SSG and PSG/SFC, have a minimum of five years of active duty service. For the Air Force, have been retired five years or less. For the Army, have been retired for three years or less.
