Program Leadership and Team Development

Athlete Development: Design, implement, and oversee progressive, age‑ and ability‑appropriate swim training programs focused on technique, conditioning, race strategy, and long‑term athlete development.

Coaching and Meet Management

Meet Day Execution: Attend all swim meets, prepare lineups, manage events, and provide effective race‑day coaching and feedback.
Scheduling & Logistics: Collaborate with the Athletic Department to develop and finalize the season practice and meet schedule, including pool time coordination.
Record Keeping: Maintain records of personal times in an organized document that can be shared with the team, parents and the athletic director.
League Participation: Represent the program at all required league, conference, and school meetings, including pre‑ and post‑season gatherings.
Team Travel: Supervise student‑athletes during team travel, including riding the team bus or coordinating coverage with assistant coaches as needed.
Administration and Communication
Stakeholder Communication: Maintain clear, consistent, and professional communication with swimmers, families, and team representatives regarding schedules, expectations, meet results, and program updates (minimum weekly communication).
Reporting: Promptly report meet results to the Athletic Department and ensure accurate and timely entry into platforms such as MaxPreps or other league‑required systems.
Equipment & Uniform Management: Oversee the inventory, care, and distribution of team equipment and uniforms, including end‑of‑season collection.
Professional Engagement: Participate fully in coaching meetings, department meetings, and school‑required professional development sessions.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience: Demonstrated competitive swimming and/or coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level.
Sport Knowledge: Strong, current knowledge of competitive swimming techniques, training methodologies, meet strategy, and rules.
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to motivate and inspire adolescents; organized, patient, positive, and effective in building relationships with student‑athletes.
Certifications: Current CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard Certification (or ability to obtain prior to the season).

What You Will Do
Lifeguards/SwimInstructors will ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies and instructing swim lessons for participants of all ages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Monitor pool, waterslide, and surrounding aquatic areas to ensure patron safety and compliance with City swimming pool rules and regulations.

* Recognize emergency situations and respond promptly by performing water rescues, first aid, CPR, AED, and other lifesaving techniques in accordance with established EAPs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
There is no educational requirement for this class; completion of two (2) years of high school or equivalent is desirable.
Experience:
No prior work experience is required; however, desirable qualifications include experience in aquatic activities, swimming, or participation in structured aquatic programs.
Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements:
* Must be at least 15 years of age at the time of hire.
* Applicants who are 18 years of age or older and have direct contact with minors must successfully complete a fingerprint-based background check as a condition of employment.
* Most possess and maintain American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard Training including Administering Emergency Oxygen certifications. * First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (California Title 22) must be obtained within one year of employment.

Work Environment
Work is performed primarily at City swimming pool and aquatic facilities, including water attractions, deck areas, and surrounding recreational spaces. Work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, water, humidity, sunlight, noise, crowds, and other outdoor elements. Duties may include standing or sitting for extended periods, remaining alert while monitoring active aquatic areas, performing water rescues, administering first aid, and responding to emergency situations.
This position involves frequent interaction with children, teens, adults, seniors, parents or guardians, fellow lifeguards, supervisors, and members of the public, including individuals who may be distressed, upset, or noncompliant with facility rules or safety requirements.
Employees in this classification may be required to work variable schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours to meet program and operational needs, including special events. Employees in this classification may be assigned to work programs or events at which alcohol is served, including the Dublin St. Patrick's Day Festival, Splatter, and other community or private events.
