PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 1.0 Primary Duties 1.1 Uses American Red Cross Standards to teach students to swim. 1.2 Teaches students safe water habits and skills. 1.3 Turns in lesson plans on a weekly basis and tracks student progress. 1.4 Observes, maintains, and enforces all pool rules and regulations. 1.5 Maintains a safe classroom environment, preventing injury, and minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations. 1.6 Responds quickly, efficiently, and professionally to all emergency situations. 1.7 Administers emergency first aid to victims of an injury. 1.8 Communicates with other aquatic staff the need for additional assistance and/or equipment. 2.0 Secondary Duties 2.1 Ensures and provides a safe, healthy and clean pool environment at all times. 2.2 Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all aquatic facility rules and regulations. 2.3 Prepares aquatic instructional material and equipment before classes begin and put away when lessons have ended. Provides corrective and positive feedback to students to foster a positive learning atmosphere. Provides specific directions for lifeguards and develops their knowledge skills and capability for swim instruction. Attends all in-service training programs and makes him/herself aware of all facility programs and scheduling. Manages the pool in the absence of the swimming pool coordinator. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Timesheet on-call basis at Grade 4, Step 1 on the Initial Placement Support Staff Salary Schedule.
