Department: Aquatics Reports to: Deck Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Summary: Instructs students on water safety and proper swim techniques based on thorough knowledge of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.Duties and Responsibilities:

Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.
Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.
Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.
Performs Deck Teacher duties as needed.
Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.
Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.
Fulfills other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED is preferred. Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor and/or childcare provider required. Two or more years as a swimminginstructor required. Swimming experience preferred. Certificates and Licenses: Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. Shallow water attendant highly recommended. Work Environment: While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate. Day In The Life of a SwimInstructor:
Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.

Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students and parents to other programs provided by the Y.
Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
Attends staff meetings and training as scheduled.
Supervises class participants while in and out of the water, enforcing safety rules and regulations as set forth by the facility in a preventive manner.
Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
Evaluates potentially dangerous situations and perform the appropriate required rescue techniques to the situation and proper first aid as needed.
Organizes and puts away needed class equipment.
Reports damaged equipment.
Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to demonstrate swiminstructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
Previous experience in formal swimming (i.e. swim team) and/or teaching (swimming or elsewhere) preferred.
Must be 16 years of age or older.
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
YMCA SwimInstructor certification, or equivalent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
