    SWIM INSTRUCTOR JOB DESCRIPTION: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for program participants. RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SWIM INSTRUCTOR: Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with the YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly to help ensure members and program participants achieve their goals. Maintains accurate program records (i.e. attendance, certificates, etc.) as required by the YMCA.Uses problem solving skills to make quick decisions to recognize and evaluate potential dangers or injury. Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages guardian's involvement. Ability to respond appropriately to an emergency, while keeping the program participants' safety in mind, while adhering to the safety policies and procedures set by the YMCA of Southern Arizona. Engages in active listening with prospects, members, program participants, volunteers and staff in order to build relationships, understand an individual's concerns, goals and interests and take the initiative to ensure they have a positive experience. When the opportunity presents itself, go above and beyond to resolve the situation immediately. Effectively communicates unusual situations and unresolved issues to the appropriate member of leadership ensuring the best interest of all parties involved. Initiates appropriate actions to maintain safety, cleanliness and organization throughout the facility, with priority being in the aquatics area. Effectively engages with diverse groups of people with different abilities and backgrounds. Welcoming all YMCA members, program participants, and guests by implementing customer service best practices. This includes (but is not limited to) adhering to the “ten-foot rule” and maintaining eye contact. Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y and on the phone; positively contributing to member experience and retention. Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner while remaining calm and objective. Attends and participates in all required staff training events and meetings. Knows, understands, and consistently follows and enforces all YMCA procedures and policies, including: pool rules, safety guidelines, facility access procedures and membership policies. Is familiar with the mission statement and core values of the YMCA. Models the core values while working and communicating with others. Utilizes available resources to provide accurate information about campaign, membership, programs, and facilities. Ensures the safety and well-being of consumers by maintaining professional boundaries, completing required abuse risk management training, following procedures for high-risk activities and supervision, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and adhering to mandated abuse reporting requirements. Maintains all job-related certifications are current and on-file. Attends and remains current on all mandatory training and staff meetings. Using RFMSS to schedule every simulator training period. Each simulator period shall be scheduled in RFMSS within 12 hours of receipt. Each simulator training day shall be closed out within 24 hours. **WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications)** + High School Diploma with 8 years' of applicable experience or Bachelors' Degree with 4 years' of experience. + Simulator Instructor Operators shall be qualified as an Instructor Pilot in the respective aircraft simulator and an Instrument Flight Examiner, or have documented three years of experience as an Aviation Simulator I/O in the required aircraft device.     Under the direction of the Lead Lifeguard, teach swim lessons, lifeguard and perform public safety work in preventing injuries in the municipal pool facility. Duties/Responsibilities: Perform a variety of duties including constant observance of patrons, enforcement of safety rules and regulations, administration of first aid and/or artificial resuscitation and teaching swim lessons. Perform safety walk arounds of all areas of responsibility per shift. Responsible for completion of pool cleaning and maintenance (i.e., cleaning decks, gutters, guard office, restrooms/cabanas, garbage, etc.) Assist in conducting special swimming activities Handle all patron and pool problems in an efficient, timely and proper manner according to established procedures Function as part of a crew within an emergency plan for the handling of accidents in pool areas Perform other duties as required Required Skills/Abilities: Ability to swim 500 meters continuously Ability to adjust schedule to meet company needs, may include occasional nights and weekends Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent Three (3) months (one season) experience teaching swim lessons or lifeguarding Required Certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid or the ability to obtain within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
