Reports to: Deck Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary: Instructs students on water safety and proper swim techniques based on thorough knowledge of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents. Makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary.
Evaluates students progress, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students swim skills.
Acts as a GSS ambassador to ensure parental satisfaction.
Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter.
Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.
Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.
Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.
Performs Deck Teacher duties as needed.
Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.
Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.
Fulfills other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED is preferred. Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor and/or childcare provider required. Two or more years as a swimming instructor required. Swimming experience preferred.
Certificates and Licenses: Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. Shallow water attendant highly recommended.
Work Environment: While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Instruct swimmers of all ages and abilities using the British Swim School curriculum and teaching methods in a safe and encouraging environment.

Availability to work during evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed.
Perform duties in an environment where noise levels are typically moderate to high, ambient temperature is warm, and humidity is high.
Stand in water for up to three to four consecutive hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
Have a high school diploma, equivalent certification, or be currently pursuing one.
Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal communication and organizational capabilities.

POSITION SUMMARY:
To organize and operate the boating program consistent with GSUSA, NYDOH and ACA safety standards and procedures. Actual salary will be based on applicant's experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develops professional goals for the summer that will help support and meet GSWNY's mission and camp goals.
Develop and carry out boating and or sailing activities.
Instructs staff in boating and or sailing procedures/activities during pre-camp training.
Teaches water safety, as well as boating, canoeing, kayaking and sailing safety to campers and staff.
Develops and enforces boating and sailing safety measures for every person in camp.
Actively participates in the required weekly lifeguard trainings.
Responsible for the care and use of the boating and sailing equipment and supplies.
Conducts an opening and closing inventory of the boating and sailing equipment and supplies.
Works with the Trip Director to set aside supplies necessary for the out of camp canoe trip. (when applicable)
Works with the Trip Director to conduct canoe trainings for the out of camp canoe program. (when applicable)
Ensures the proper use and care of all equipment.
Lead by example.
Emphasize safety.
Follow all ACA, GSUSA and NYSDOH standards and regulations for boating and sailing.
May live in a tent/cabin unit and assist the other unit staff members with all unit program and supervision of campers. (female staff only)
Participates in all aspects of camp including pre-camp, open house and post camp.
Attends staff meetings when scheduled/necessary.
Apply behavior management techniques to conflicts with children when necessary.
Report incidents/ accidents to supervisor or health supervisor immediately.
Report suspected child abuse to supervisor immediately.
Required to stay on the property during hours of operation (Sunday 10:00am to Friday 9:00pm).
Accepts other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Waterfront Director/Camp Director.

Maintaining a safe, inclusive and positive training environment.
Administering appropriate training procedures via ARC 'Learn to Swim' Training.

Cleaning, sanitation and organization of aquatic facility's and training equipment.
Testing and documentation submission for ARC 'Learn to Swim' training courses.

Attend required/mandatory training, workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.
