This is a highly skilled water safety work at City swimming pool facilities. This position copes with large groups, including children, monitoring both visually and audible to insure safety, facility rules and health standards. Duties include enforcing rules and regulations governing use of facilities, preventing injury or loss of life, and administering first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation as necessary. Lifeguards are responsible for assisting with routine pool maintenance and custodial duties and other tasks as assigned by supervisors. Work schedules will vary. Work is performed in accordance with departmental policies and regulations concerning public use of swimming areas and established water safety practices. Supervision is received from the Aquatic Facility Manager who reviews work through personal observations for effective application of life guarding techniques.
