Your Typical Responsibilities:

Work a flexible schedule that may include evenings (3pm-7pm), weekends (8am- 1pm), and holidays as required by business needs.
Work in an environment where noise levels are usually moderate to high and be in the water for the duration of the shift.
Infuse each lesson with energy, excitement, and entertainment, incorporating songs and games to enhance the learning experience.

* Help the head coach organize and execute an aggressive scouting and recruiting program of local and regional high school student athletes and out-of-state student athletes; actively participate and support high school visitations; establish individual contacts with athletes and parent/ guardians; follow-up correspondence/emails; lead campus tours for prospective student athletes.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:
An incumbent in this classification patrols the swimming pool and aquatics facility to ensure safe and enjoyable program activities. May supervise and perform work in the teaching of specific techniques to participants in the aquatics program. Incumbents are responsible for ensuring that the skills which are outlined in the course description are taught; assisting in any required pre-testing program to assign the participants into classes, divisions or ability groups; assisting in curriculum planning; providing safe and enjoyable program activities; evaluating participant progress/performance; and completing required departmental paperwork. Work is reviewed through regularly scheduled trainings, reports and evaluations.
SCHEDULE / IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES:

* Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water.
* Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound swim brick.
* Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on their back returning to the starting point, with both hands still holding the object while keeping their face at or near the surface of the water for breaths. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.
* Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
* 200 yard swim in 3 minutes and 30 seconds or less, swim goggles may be used.
Selection Interviews:
* Applicants who successfully complete the In-Water Physical Fitness Test will be invited to participate in the selection interviews. Interviews will begin after all the fitness testing is complete.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The Program
The Recreation Services Division offers a wide variety of Aquatic Programs and Classes at The Victor E. Benstead Plunge pool year-round. The Victor E. Benstead Plunge has been serving the community since 1956. "The Plunge," as commonly referred to, is a heated Olympic sized 50 x 20 meter outdoor pool, open year round. The pool is divided into two courses; one 25 yard and one 26 meter course. The pool is heated year-round to about 80° to 81°. The Plunge operating hours are from 4:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with classes and programs offered at various times.
The Positions
LIFEGUARD ($18.94 - $20.88 per hour)
Lifeguard duties include but are not limited to:
* Enforce pool safety rules and regulations;
* Monitor swimming and other pool activities;
* Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning;
* Apply cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid;
* Inspect swimming pool for cleanliness and perform routine maintenance;
* Keep a daily log of rescues and other emergencies and prepare written reports of these activities;

Job Title: Swim Instructor - Training Fully Provided / Prior Swim Experience Required Reports to: Franchise Owner Status: Part-time, hourly Swim Instructors at British Swim School Alamitos Bay-Los Cerritos teach lessons to children and adults to become safe and happy swimmers, regardless of age or ability. Adherence to British Swim School teaching curriculum ensures that each student in our program learns water survival skills, then progresses to propulsion and stroke development in a fun and gentle environment.

Roles and Responsibilities
Report to and communicate directly with Aquatics Director
Conduct classes in a fun and gentle environment, following current teaching methods, policies, and safety and emergency procedures as detailed in the British Swim School training manual and as directed by the Aquatics Director
Attend staff meetings and ongoing training/coaching as requested by Aquatics Director
Work a varied but fixed schedule that may include holidays and weekends as required by business needs, and as requested by management
Work in an environment where noise levels are usually moderate to high, and stand in the water for up to 5 consecutive hours
Other responsibilities as assigned by the Aquatics Director/Owner
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Enthusiastic, assertive personality with strong relationship and customer service skills
Effectively communicate with children, customers and employees
Disciplined to follow schedules and enforce safety procedures, as well as follow policies, teaching methods and procedures of British Swim School
Ability to demonstrate and teach swim strokes appropriately
Qualifications
Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid (current preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment)
Successful completion of British Swim School Swim Instructor internal training
