Assists the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) in managing and implementing the overall JROTC unit program according to national, state, and district standards. Promotes cadet intellectual, social, patriotic, character education, and physical growth. Essential Functions
Teach, assess, evaluate, and document student progress and growth through formal and informal evaluations procedures.
Evaluate students' progress and determine materials and strategies to provide for their needs.
Implement the Army's national curriculum, lesson plans, curriculum related extra-curricular activities, and objectives with other content areas to provide for transfer of learning and knowledge.
Instructs 180 hours of military directed subject materials in classroom and leadership laboratory environment.
Administer, advice, and appraise extracurricular teams (drill, rifle, physical training, and academic challenge).
Assist the SAI in determining and supervising cadets who serve in key leadership positions (command and staff).
Assumes direct responsibility for the development of appropriate behavior of students within the school setting by establishing and maintaining effective discipline and management procedures.
Coordinates instructional activities and collaborates with other professional staff, both school and non-school-based, as required to maximize learning opportunities.
Administer, advises, coordinate, and supervise special activities or events such as the annual military ball, drill meets, and summer leadership camp.
Implement and maintain communication and coordination with the school faculty and staff to promote cadet involvement in school activities, cadet recruitment and retention.
Coordinate, collaborate, and compile data for data records in the automated cadet database.
Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.
Ensure continuous communication with parents or guardians, both written and oral, to keep them informed of a cadet's progress.
Assist the SAI in managing and submission of all reports required by the Army and the district.
Counsel, mentor, and tutor cadets as needed.
Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follow federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Required:
Retired Army active duty or gray area Reserve/National Guard Non-Commissioned Officer, grades E6 to E9.
Eligible to obtain Federal JROTC instructor certification.
Associates Degree.
Meet current height and weight standards as outlined in appropriate Army Service regulations.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and automation technology skills.
Willing to wear the appropriate Service uniform and meet personal grooming standards as outlined in Service Regulations.
Demonstrated troop level experience.

Position Description
HGW is seeking a passionate and energetic individual who wishes to positively impact children's lives as a Summer Program Lifeguard. Swimming is a core component of the Horizons model and an essential part of our overall strategy to advance equity. Students often begin the program as non-swimmers who are afraid of the water. The Summer Program Lifeguard will work to ensure all students are safe in the water.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Swim Director the Lifeguard's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Maintain First Aid and safety supplies and report to the Swim Director when a need arises
Attending orientation sessions (during the week of June 23) prior to the start of the program
Protecting the health and safety of swimming pool patrons
Ensure the safety of all swimmers and staff
Responsible for surveying the entire pool, deck, and pool areas
Maintain a daily log of all events, activities, and incidents that may occur
Enforcing pool safety standards for all students and staff through consistent and open communication
Working with aquatics facility staff to ensure students are adhering to all building rules and regulations
Requirements
Qualifications and Competencies
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (or the ability to secure such certification prior to the start of the program)
Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
At least 16 years of age
Must possess good leadership and decision-making skills
Excellent swimming proficiency
Preference will be given to candidates with 250 to 300 hours at a facility that conducts regular team training for lifeguards.
Compensation
The pay rate for this position is $23 per hour.
Lifeguard Certification Stipend
If you acquired a Lifeguard certification between September 2025 and June 1, 2026, HGW will reimburse the fees paid for your Lifeguard certification upon successful completion of your employment in our summer program.
Work Permits
Employees under the age of 18 must have a work permit from DC or MD.

The summer season begins Memorial Day weekend (Saturday, May 23, 2026) and runs through Labor Day (Monday, September 7, 2026), with opportunities to work at the indoor facility throughout the year.
As a lifeguard/swiminstructor, you are responsible for the safety and well-being of City swimming pool patrons and for teaching swimming skills that will last a lifetime. We are looking for enthusiastic, dependable, and focused individuals who enjoy working with people of diverse ages and backgrounds, who can work independently and as part of a team, and who have the maturity to think and act quickly, problem solve, and perform effectively under pressure while maintaining a professional, helpful, and poised demeanor.

They are also responsible for submitting all required course documentation to Aquatics professional staff or their designee. Instructors may also assist with weekly In-Service trainings and vigilance tests and audits. Instructors must be comfortable using the American Red Cross Instructor's Corner class management website and maintain clear communication with staff and participants. Lifeguard Instructors are expected to treat all class participants with fairness and respect and should, to the best of their ability, aid participants in completing course objectives.

Schedule
The Lifeguard substitute will have a part-time, intermittent schedule of approximately 5-20 hours per week within our core program hours of Monday through Friday between 8:30 and 3:00 pm, as needed to cover staff absences.

Position Description
HGW is seeking a passionate and energetic individual who wishes to transform children's lives as a Lifeguard. Swimming is a core component of the Horizons model and an essential part of our overall strategy to advance equity. Students often begin the program as non-swimmers who are afraid of the water. The Lifeguard Substitute will work with the rest of the Summer Swim team to ensure that we have full coverage for our Summer Swim Program.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Swim Director, the Lifeguard's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Maintain First Aid and safety supplies, and report to the Swim Director when a need arises
Attending orientation sessions (as noted above) prior to the start of the program
Protecting the health and safety of swimming pool patrons
Ensure the safety of all swimmers and staff
Responsible for surveying the entire pool, deck, and pool areas
Maintain a daily log of all events, activities, and incidents that may occur
Enforcing pool safety standards for all students and staff through consistent and open communication
Working with the aquatics facility staff to ensure students are adhering to all building rules and regulations
Requirements
Qualifications and Competencies
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (or the ability to secure such certification before the start of the program)
Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
At least 16 years of age
Must possess good leadership and decision-making skills
Excellent swimming proficiency
Preference will be given to candidates with 250 to 300 hours at a facility that conducts regular team training for lifeguards.
Compensation
The pay rate for this position is $21.25 per hour.
Lifeguard Certification Stipend
If you acquired a Lifeguard certification between September 2025 and June 1, 2026, HGW will reimburse the fees paid for your Lifeguard certification upon successful completion of your employment in our summer program.
Work Permits
Employees under the age of 18 must have a work permit from DC or MD.

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 20 pounds. Work includes regular time in a chlorinated pool and on commercial school buses. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to be in one position for long periods of screen use, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear both in person and over devices. The employee interacts in close spaces and frequently with children and other staff. May be in situations which require conflict resolution. The employee must have visual, auditory, and physical ability to respond quickly to critical incidents involving students and act in an emergency situation.

At RA, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We are actively seeking Lifeguard Instructors to join our Aquatics team! This role is ideal for certified instructors who are confident, well-spoken, and committed to delivering high-quality training in lifesaving techniques and emergency response.
Lifeguard Instructors are responsible for teaching courses in Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. All instruction must follow American Red Cross standards and policies. Instructors ensure respectful treatment of all class equipment and supplies, confirm receipt of materials, and arrange for their return at the end of each course. They are also responsible for submitting all required course documentation to Aquatics professional staff or their designee. Instructors may also assist with weekly In-Service trainings and vigilance tests and audits. Instructors must be comfortable using the American Red Cross Instructor's Corner class management website and maintain clear communication with staff and participants. Lifeguard Instructors are expected to treat all class participants with fairness and respect and should, to the best of their ability, aid participants in completing course objectives.
Candidates must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification (provided upon hire) and are expected to consistently demonstrate the skills outlined in their certification, adhere to all standards and protocols associated with it, and maintain its validity through ongoing compliance and renewal as required.
This position offers 2-20 hours per week, from May - September. These hours depend on operational needs and are subject to change. Instructors are required to attend a monthly staff meeting.
Hourly wage will be based on the candidate's experience, education, and overall fit for the role.
