Applicants must pass a pre-course swimming skills test prior to taking lifeguarding courses.
The water skills test consist of the following:
* 300-yard swim using front crawl or breaststroke
* Two-minute tread using legs only
* The ability to retrieve a 10-lb dive weight from 7 ft. deep, surface and swim 20 yds. with the weight using legs only and exit the pool without using a ladder within 100 seconds

Minimum Qualifications
Part-Time Lifeguard:

Must be age 16 or older. Must be able to pass a water/skills test. High School Diploma or GED supplemented by one year of experience in lifeguarding is preferred.
Part-Time Lifeguard:
The following nationally-recognized certifications are preferred: Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid.
Part-Time Lifeguard/Instructor:
The following nationally-recognized certifications are preferred: Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, CPR, and First Aid. Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

They are also responsible for submitting all required course documentation to Aquatics professional staff or their designee. Instructors may also assist with weekly In-Service trainings and vigilance tests and audits. Lifeguard Instructors are expected to treat all class participants with fairness and respect and should, to the best of their ability, aid participants in completing course objectives.
