BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The Water Safety Instructor Trainer will be certified by the American Red Cross to teach Water Safety Instruction classes to the staff at the North Laurel Community Center Pool. * Must be able to work evening and weekend hours. * Must be up to date on Water Safety Instructor techniques and practices. * Must have working knowledge of swimming pool operations. * Must be able to teach six to ten students in a class. * Must possess a good working relationship with American Red Cross. * Will provide pool management with a list of all students who complete the course, the date of completion, and provide a copy of their Water Safety Instructor Certification card * Instructor will provide all test materials required by the American Red Cross. This role is ideal for certified instructors who are confident, well-spoken, and committed to delivering high-quality training in lifesaving techniques and emergency response. Lifeguard Instructors are responsible for teaching courses in Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. All instruction must follow American Red Cross standards and policies. Instructors ensure respectful treatment of all class equipment and supplies, confirm receipt of materials, and arrange for their return at the end of each course. They are also responsible for submitting all required course documentation to Aquatics professional staff or their designee. Instructors may also assist with weekly In-Service trainings and vigilance tests and audits. Instructors must be comfortable using the American Red Cross Instructor's Corner class management website and maintain clear communication with staff and participants. Lifeguard Instructors are expected to treat all class participants with fairness and respect and should, to the best of their ability, aid participants in completing course objectives. Candidates must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification (provided upon hire) and are expected to consistently demonstrate the skills outlined in their certification, adhere to all standards and protocols associated with it, and maintain its validity through ongoing compliance and renewal as required. This position offers 2-20 hours per week, from May - September. These hours depend on operational needs and are subject to change. Instructors are required to attend a monthly staff meeting. Hourly wage will be based on the candidate's experience, education, and overall fit for the role. Job Description Lifeguard Job Responsibilities: Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed. Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies. Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary. Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
