Swim Instructors at British Swim School teach lessons to children and adults to become safe and happy swimmers, regardless of age or ability. Roles and Responsibilities:
Report to and communicate directly with Aquatics Manager
Conduct classes in a fun and gentle environment, following current teaching methods, policies, and safety and emergency procedures as detailed in the British Swim School training manual or directed by the Aquatics Manager
Our Swim Instructors also cross-train as Deck Ambassadors to help represent and be the greeters and friendly face of our program. Customer service skills and a desire to work with people are a must!
Attend staff meetings and ongoing training/coaching
Part-time position with afternoon/evening shifts on weekdays and morning or afternoon shifts on weekends
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent

Comfortable in and around the water. Strong swimming skills are a plus but can be taught and developed!

Provide a travel roster, emergency phone numbers of participants, trip itinerary, adult sponsor forms, and field trip forms if required to the head coach, AD/ Athletics/Activities Designee and/or Administrator, and transportation department bus scheduler
Complete the Sports Safety Checklist at the beginning of each season for every sport coached (Head and Assistant Coaches)
Know and enforce the transportation rules and regulations for scheduling bus requests and supervising student-athletes on buses during activity trips (Administrative Regulations 5341 & 5342)
HEAD COACH
* ensure that all coaches and participants conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner at all times
* coordinate with the athletic trainer the recruitment of student trainers and the scheduling of trainer availability before during & after practices and competitions
* ensure that all student-athletes and coaches know and follow all transportation policies and guidelines (Administrative Regulations 5341 & 5342)
* maintain current coaching & CPR certification requirements
* communicate performance and Code of Conduct (Administrative Regulation 5371) expectations to all assistant coaches and participants
* assist coaches in achieving performance expectations assigned
* provides feedback to AD or Administrator for evaluations to all assistant coaches and aides
* meet with the AD or Athletics/Activities Designee and/or Administrator to complete an annual review of the activity

* operates equipment safely and reports unsafe work conditions to the Athletic Director/ Athletics/Activities Designee and/or Administrator
* inspect and ensure the safety of all facilities utilized and equipment issued to student-athletes
* know, teach, and follow the concussion protocol designed for participants
* know, teach, and implement the emergency action plan for the sport, and facilities used at all times in the case of, a violent intruder, lighting, extreme temperatures, and injuries
* establish, know, enforce, monitor, and teach all district, local, and state health safety requirements related to the COVID-19 virus but not limited to COVID-19

GENERAL PURPOSE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Creates lesson and instruction plans for individual and group swimming lessons; delivers lessons to children and adult patrons; evaluates swimming skills and progress and promotes learners according to established swimming standards and skill requirements. Develops lesson plans, evaluations, reports and related documentation and submits to Red Cross; participates in maintenance of daily records relating to accidents, rescues, water temperature and chemical testing; reports unsafe conditions to Aquatics Manager or Head Lifeguard. Observes patron activities; enforces rules; performs first aide as needed to assist individuals suffering injuries; performs water rescues as needed to prevent mishaps and drowning. Performs general upkeep and custodial duties; cleans facility floors, mops, sweeps, vacuums, polishes, etc.; cleans pool decks. Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and Experience:
A. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties; plus,
specialized training and certification (Red Cross) as a WSI;
AND
B. Two (2) years general experience related to safe swimming, swim team participation or related background;
OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge American Red Cross methods and techniques of water safety and swimming instruction; pool equipment and pool maintenance; water safety practices, rules and guidelines; first aide, CPR; swimming instruction techniques. Ability to plan, organize and develop swimming lesson programs and plans; demonstrate advanced swimming skills; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, young people, ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
3. Special Qualifications:
Must be 16 years of age.
Must be Water Safety Instructor (WSI), first aid and CPR certified. Lifeguard Training certification desirable.
4. Work Environment:
Employees of the position perform in an open air and/or "bubble" environment. Tasks require variety of physical activities,
not generally involving muscular strain, but do require frequent walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing
and seeing. Moderate lifting required with certain assignment areas on in the event of water emergencies. Common eye,
hand, finger dexterity required for many tasks. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional
stability and discriminating thinking.
