We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Specification Business Development Manager to promote and specify our Wilkins product line among plumbing, mechanical, and fire protection engineers throughout the Northeastern United States. The primary objective is to establish our products as the basis of design in engineering specifications, thereby driving market penetration and sales growth.
Key Responsibilities
Relationship Building:
Identify and engage with key plumbing, mechanical, civil, and fire protection engineering firms across Texas.
Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with engineers to influence product specifications.
Product Promotion:
Educate engineers on the features, benefits, and applications of the Wilkins product line, including backflow preventers, PRVs, ACVs, fire protection products, and other water control solutions.
Conduct product presentations, technical seminars, and training sessions to promote product understanding and adoption.
Specification Influence:
Work to have Wilkins products specified as the basis of design in new projects.
Review existing project specifications and advocate for product substitutions where advantageous.
Collaboration:
Partner with manufacturer representatives and sales teams to coordinate efforts and maximize market penetration.
Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams and external partners.
CRM Management:
Utilize the company's CRM system to document interactions, track project specifications, and manage a pipeline of opportunities.
Ensure timely and accurate communication of job opportunities and project updates to relevant team members.
Market Intelligence:
Utilize construction intelligence platforms such as Dodge Construction Network and ConstructConnect to identify upcoming projects, track specifications, and support sales opportunities.
Collaborate with sales representatives and manufacturer's reps to align specification efforts with project pursuit strategies.
Provide feedback to product management and leadership on market trends, competitive activity, and specification barriers.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in specification business development within the plumbing, mechanical, or fire protection industries preferred.
Ability to influence engineering specifications and driving product adoption.
Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand and communicate complex product information.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Willingness to travel extensively throughout Northeast.
Active participation in relevant industry associations is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND BEHAVIORS
Knowledge of manufacturing sales through distribution and rep agencies, and their related materials purchasing pathways is essential.
Solid business skills in customer-facing functions, inclusive of value-added-selling, negotiating and closing the deal.
Proficient in developing and delivering presentations to Engineers, Owners, and Regulators
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
