As a Swim Instructor at the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Division Salvation Army Kroc Center, you'll lead both group and private lessons, ensuring swimmers of all ages and skill levels progress and thrive in the water.
Lessons are held Monday - Thursday from 4:30 pm - 6:35 pm, Thursdays from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm and Saturday 9:00am - 12:00 pm . Flexible scheduling! Work as little as 1 shift a week if that fits your schedule. Swim Instructor pay rate is $15.84/hour. An additional $1.00/hour is paid if you also work as a certified Lifeguard. A shift differential of $1.00 per hour is paid for all shifts worked from 4:00 pm Friday through Sunday.

SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Swim Instructor will be responsible for planning and teaching group and private lessons at the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Division Salvation Army Kroc Center.

* Instruct assigned classes according to guidelines and swim level.
* Adapt teaching approaches to the age, experience level, and ability of participants so that they meet course objectives.
* Prepare progressive lesson plans which will enhance the experience of program participants.
* Evaluate student learning, and record progress.
* Provide regular and timely evaluation feedback to students and parents (if applicable).
* Complete records and reports in a timely manner and return them to the Aquatics Manager and/or Aquatics Coordinator.
* Educate patrons and enforce all pool rules.
* Participate in designated staff training and professional development courses, including regular in-service training sessions.
* Ensure the attractive appearance, function and general upkeep of the aquatics facilities including equipment and furnishings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1+ years of swim lesson experience with a wide variety of ages and abilities is strongly preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: American Red Cross Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED/First Aid (or equivalent) is required within 60 days of hire; American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) is preferred.

The primary duties of this job take place in a busy public Aquatics Center. The noise level will be high. Temperatures will be above normal room temperature in a high-humidity environment. For other duties of this job, such as outdoor special events and community center activities, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.

POSITION SUMMARY:

JOB SUMMARY Help kids build confidence, self-esteem, and swimming skills and water safety in people of all ages through individual (private lessons) or group classes. As a Swim Instructor, you will get in the pool to safely lead members and participants through fun and engaging swim classes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Build collaborative relationships with participants and parents to retain class numbers.
Instruct participants on proper form and safety in the water while following the YSL (YMCA swim lessons) curriculum.
Enforce prescribed safety procedures and rules of good behavior and courtesy within the class.
Complete class recommendation forms with feedback for parents in a timely manner.
If your personal schedule takes you away from a scheduled shift, find a substitute instructor and provide a prepared lesson plan for them to ensure the class members are given the high-quality lesson.
Take class attendance on a daily basis.
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor with coworkers and patrons. Make class participants and parents feel welcome, safe and engaged.
Actively participate in required staff trainings and meetings. Maintain required certifications.
Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff and children which includes:
Adhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children.

Collaborate with the Aquatics Director and families to schedule lesson times that work for all, along with goal setting and execution of lessons.
SKILLS AND TRAINING
In accordance with state law, instructors must be at least 16 years of age. CPR certification is required before swim instructors ages 16-17 may begin shadowing and instructing; training provided.
Six months' experience working or volunteering with children, especially in a small-group setting is preferred.
Must be able to correctly demonstrate and assess swim skills both on the deck and in the water; know the sequence of swimming stages. Training will be provided.
The ability to communicate with, motivate, and evaluate all ages and swim levels of students is essential.
You are going to get wet! Instructors must be willing to teach in the pool.
WSI certification or YMCA swim lesson instructor certification is extremely beneficial.
Part of the onboarding process will involve required training in current YMCA curriculum.
Due to the instructional nature of the position, the instructor must actively lead and demonstrate skills. This will require the significant use of hands, arms and body. This requires the ability to support and assist struggling participants. Must be able to speak clearly and project your voice in a noisy indoor pool environment.

* Learning Facilitation - Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities
* Demonstrate flexibility in teaching assignments, including potential instruction during summer terms, evenings, or at off-campus locations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Crops and Soils, Soil Science, Biology, Agriculture Education required.
* A minimum of two years of relevant industry experience is required, with at least one year occurring within the past five years. (One year of related occupational experience may be waived with at least two years of post−secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last five years).
* Teaching or training experience is desirable.
* Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum.
* Upon hire, must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.

Learning Facilitation - Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Classroom Management - Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation. Ensure course materials (including textbooks) are available to students.
Cropland Planning Collaboration -Collaborate as part of a team to oversee and maintain cropland that supports instructional activities. Work with students, faculty, support staff, and community partners to plan and execute crop production activities, including planting, tillage, nutrient and pest management, and harvest operations. Participate in shared decision-making for ordering seed and inputs, coordinating with sales agronomists, crop scouting, and monitoring field conditions. Contribute to timely and efficient field maintenance to optimize crop performance and sustainability goals. Support budgeting and resource planning in coordination with team members to ensure operational needs are met .
Team Participation - Support the college by engaging in division, department and team activities, and meetings including planning, development, and budgeting, and staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
Business & Community Engagement - Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, clinical partners, and high school agriculture programs by participating in advisory committees, external meetings, business visits, and community groups. Collaborate with staff to recruit students, participate in recruitment events, and proactively promote the College and our programs.
Student Success & Support - Serve as an advocate for students and engage in activities that help students reach their goals by collaborating with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful. Advise students regarding class schedules, career information, internships, and other program-related information.
Professional Development - Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices, and teaching through professional development activities, networking with regional industry leaders, and the integration of new techniques and technology. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Demonstrate flexibility in teaching assignments, including potential instruction during summer terms, evenings, or at off-campus locations as needed.
May be asked to perform routine maintenance or minor repairs on classroom, lab, or field equipment to ensure safe and effective instructional use.
Support and instruct in specialized training programs such as Custom Applicator Training, contributing to community outreach.
Assist in organizing and coordinating program-related events, student competitions, or extracurricular activities that enhance student engagement and visibility of the program. Support and participate in FFA CDE competition and support PAS student club participation and activities.
Ability to drive larger vehicles (12-passenger van) and equipment is beneficial, and training will be provided as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission of the college and the success of the Agricultural programs at Fox Valley Technical College.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and/or Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Crops and Soils, Soil Science, Biology, Agriculture Education required.
A minimum of two years of relevant industry experience is required, with at least one year occurring within the past five years. (One year of related occupational experience may be waived with at least two years of post−secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last five years).
Teaching or training experience is desirable.
Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum.
Upon hire, must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
Must possess Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) Certification or be willing to obtain certification upon hire.
Must possess a Wisconsin Pesticide Certification or be willing to obtain the certification upon hire.
