The YMCA of Rapid City is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Swim Instructors to join our aquatic team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional swim instruction in accordance with YMCA risk management and aquatic policies, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. You will report to the Aquatic Director and play a crucial role in delivering a safe and engaging swim lesson program. Your primary duties include conducting swim classes that cater to various age groups, maintaining a positive and encouraging environment, and helping children develop both socially and physically.
As a Swim Instructor, you will work closely with other aquatic staff to ensure a safe and welcoming environment. This includes maintaining and using equipment, supplies, and materials safely and responsibly, thus minimizing replacement costs. You will also be required to perform and record regular tests for chlorine, pH levels, and water temperature, promptly notifying maintenance personnel and the Aquatic Director of any discrepancies. In the case of pool contamination, such as feces or vomit, you will follow the established procedures to ensure cleanliness and safety.
An essential part of your role involves developing and maintaining positive relationships with swim lesson participants and their parents. You will provide excellent member service by being well-informed about the various aquatic activities and programs offered by the YMCA. Your ability to answer questions or direct members to the appropriate resources will enhance their experience and ensure they feel supported. Open communication with co-workers and the Aquatic Director is crucial for maintaining high standards of safety and instruction.
Additionally, you will be responsible for accurately completing rosters, including attendance and progress reports, throughout each session. In the event of an incident or accident, you will complete and distribute detailed reports to ensure proper documentation and follow-up. This meticulous record-keeping is vital for maintaining a safe and organized learning environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA training and curriculum.

Job Summary:
The Gunsmithing Instructor is a full-time, benefited, tenure-track, faculty categorized position located at the Douglas Campus. The Instructor must use multiple learning methods in the classroom to maximize student learning. The position is responsible for facets of the Gunsmithing Program and curricula. The primary duty is to prepare and deliver in-class, hybrid, and/or online instruction to students. It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner, and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE
1. Provides high-quality instruction to students in assigned courses, particularly those including personal and industrial safety, Hazard Communications (HAZCOM), NSC First Aid/CPR, safe operations of large vehicles including cranes and fork lifts, defensive driving, H2Sand other industry-related content as may be requested.
2. Provides quality learning experiences for all students in accordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining the basic integrity of course standards and objectives.
3. States clear objectives and criteria in each course syllabus; follows the Curriculum Committee's guidelines regarding course syllabi; integrates the appropriate College learning goals into each course; and evaluates student performance in light of these objectives and criteria.
4. Teaches courses in a variety of physical and classroom environments as required. Courses are typically run on a year-round basis so as to best serve the needs of industry partners. Material is to be presented both in the classroom as well as outdoor environments, in order to effectively simulate actual working conditions for students.
5. Designs and implements effective learning processes for students; provides feedback on student improvement in attaining the College's Goals for Student Success and student outcomes.
6. Learns to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, including regular use of e-mail and calendar system, MyWestern, and Canvas (learning management system); integrates learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate.
7. Submits syllabi, student evaluations, grades, and other required information in a timely manner.
8. Recommends opportunities for content enhancements and curricular modifications to Director to facilitate improvements in student learning and better grasp and retention of material.
9. Candidate may work up to 1,272 hours per year, and is expected to work a minimum of 1,040 hours per year (approximately 80 hours per month).
