No reading, homework, telephone calls, cell phones, iPod, or conversations/activities that will take your attention away from the pool. Physical Demands: 1. Remain alert, with no lapses in consciousness. 2. Sit for extended periods, including in an elevated chair. 3. Move to various locations, including in and around an elevated chair. 4. Communicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distances, and communicate swiftly and effectively with emergency personnel over the telephone and in person. 5. Hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment, including in water, understanding that significant background noise exists in aquatic environments. 6. Observe all assigned sections of the water area. 7. Perform all needed rescues and survival skills. 8. Think in abstract, solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise, and remember. 9. Operate alone as a lifeguard, without other lifeguard for support.
