Swim Lesson Instructor Job Description: Trained to teach private and group swim lessons to a variety of participates. Our Goals Make swimming a fun and enjoyable activity. Promote safety in the pool and their surroundings. Encourage and promote independent swimmers. Improve swimmers' ability throughout the course of the program. Prerequisite Skills: At least 15 years of age. Ability to demonstrate Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Sidestroke, and Elementary Backstroke. Ability to tread water for 1 minute. For older levels, ability to demonstrate front standing dive, open turns, and flip turns. Ability to demonstrate surface dive and swim under water for 10 yards. Certification: Instructor will attend a Swim Lesson Clinic in order to get certified to teach swim lessons. Fill out and sign an Instructor Agreement at the Swim Lesson Clinic. General Duties: Have general knowledge of all levels and follow all guidelines of Swim Care Program. Always review skills from previous day. Begin and end class on time. Arrive 10 minutes before each class so you can have time to set up supplies and have lesson plans ready to go. Maintain safety at all times. Never leave class unattended. Set class expectations before the start of lessons and enforce those expectations. Make sure all paperwork is filled out as needed daily. This includes attendance and skills for each student. Introduce yourself to parents and be willing to discuss their child's progress. At the end of each session, complete a progress report or certificate for every student in the class and have parents fill out an evaluation form. Uniform Requirements You should wear your MPM lifeguard swimsuit or swim trunks. If you are not a lifeguard, make sure you wear a plain black one-piece swimsuit or black swim trunks. Also, make sure you are wearing sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Scheduling and Availability Schedules will be determined based on your availability. You will enter your availability on Digi and your Coordinator will schedule you accordingly. Keep in mind you must be able to work the ENTIRE session that you are scheduled for. The Rec-Plex Sharks are seeking a dedicated Assistant Swim Coach to join our coaching team. In this role, you will work closely with the Head Coach and Head Group Coach to teach and train swimmers in proper stroke techniques and racing strategies suitable for their age and developmental level. Your responsibilities will include fostering positive relationships with swimmers, their parents, and fellow coaching staff, participating in group practices, maintaining attendance records, and assisting with new swimmer evaluations. Compensation for this position will reflect a increased rate effective January 5th, 2025. Normal Shift: Varies Key Responsibilities: * Assist in the planning, instruction, and operation of the Rec-Plex Sharks USA Swim Team and instructional swimming programs. * Make decisions and solve problems where no established procedures exist. * Handle confidential information with discretion. * Engage in continuous mental effort to ensure smooth operation and high-quality instruction. * Instruction: Provide effective instruction and support for the swim team. * Monitoring: Oversee activities in assigned areas to ensure safety and proper conduct. * Customer Service: Address and resolve inquiries, concerns, and complaints from customers and residents. * Program Development: Help develop, assess, and coordinate swim team activities and operations. * Facility Maintenance: Perform general janitorial duties and maintain a safe and sanitary environment. * Professional Development: Stay updated on trends and developments in aquatics and coaching. * Team Meetings: Attend relevant meetings to contribute to team planning and strategy. * Scheduling: Assist in creating practice schedules and workouts for the swim team. Job Description Teaches lifeguard candidates in preparation for StarGuard Elite Certification. Lifeguard Instructors are the first people to represent our company to employees. Instructors have the responsibility and opportunity to set the example for new lifeguards. Lifeguard Instructors assist the District Manager(s) with all duties necessary to provide a safe and effective lifeguard course and aquatic facility. Certification and training for becoming an instructor will be provided. Previous lifeguard experience is required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Attend initial training and in-service training for lifeguard instructor and lifeguarding. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, including abiding to uniform requirements. Instruct group lifeguard courses in level appropriate skills. Evaluate lifeguard course participants. Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly facility and class. Perform daily safety check in pool and deck areas. Maintain an attentive lookout for potential accidents in the swimming pool and surrounding facility and appropriately checks any problems. Assure records of daily course attendance and skills checklists are appropriately maintained and documented. Notify the District Manager(s) in the event of an emergency or other issues. Assure accident/injury, incident, and rescue reports are documented. Take proper care of StarGuard Elite and Midwest Pool Management testing materials and equipment. Ensure students complete test outs per training and guidelines through StarGuard Elite. Assist with planning, attend and participate in all mandatory staff meetings and trainings. Complete additional duties assigned by supervisors. Lifeguard Instructor class will be held for Instructors to obtain their Lifeguard Instructor Certification before teaching Lifeguard Classes. Lifeguard classes will begin in January and continue through the summer season.
