Under the direction of the Training Manager, the swiminstructor at Sutton Swim School (SSS) is responsible for teaching swim lessons that reflect SSSs high standards for safety, skill development, and a positive learning environment. The instructor collaborates closely with team members and holds primary responsibility for the safety, engagement, and progress of each student in their care. This role is carried out with integrity, teamwork, initiative, and a strong commitment to serving the community. Address student behavior issues or disputes promptly and constructively.
Maintain and organize teaching equipment, report any damage to the Deck Manager, and help keep the facility clean and safe.
Participate in ongoing training, personal swim development and staff meetings as scheduled.
Arrive at the pool at least 15 minutes before your scheduled lesson time.
Perform other job-related duties as needed, including substituting for coworkers when necessary.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must be 18 years of age with at least one year of work experience. Available to work at least 3 days a week. Ability to work flexible hours during evenings and weekends (Must be available. Emotional maturity and enjoyment of being in the water. Ability to instruct in the pool for up to 4 hours per day. Genuine interest in working with children and supporting their character development. At least one year of experience working with children, educational classes, swimming, youth programs, recreation or a related field is preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
SwimInstructors at Sutton Swim School are active and engaged throughout each shift. To ensure the safety and success of all students, instructors must be comfortable speaking clearly and listening attentively in a busy pool environment; standing, walking, crouching, and swimming for extended periods; using their hands to demonstrate skills, organize equipment, and assist students; and lifting, holding, or moving equipment and occasionally helping small children (up to 50 pounds). Good vision-both close-up, distance, and peripheral-and the ability to adjust focus as needed to monitor the pool are required. This is a safety-sensitive position, and instructors alertness and physical readiness are essential to keeping everyone safe and supported.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Our swiminstructors work in and around our indoor pool, which is kept at 90 degrees year-round for the comfort of our students. Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the SwimInstructor/Lifeguard, multi-tasks on an ongoing basis but not limited to include: plan, organize, lead and/or assist, lifeguard and supervise various diversified and adaptive recreational activities for a variety of disabled individuals and customer groups of all ages. In addition, this position is also responsible for customer service of all new and existing customers; communicating to patrons if the pool is shut down for maintenance, maintain the facilities and care of the pool, gym, and equipment. Provide and assist with lifeguarding services for all patrons of the facility on a daily basis

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
Training and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities are qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: There is no educational requirement for this class; equivalent to completion of two years of high school is desirable.
Experience: Demonstrated experience in skilled aquatic activities is desirable.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
* At time of hire, must be 15 years of age or older.
