The Program The Recreation Services Division offers a wide variety of Aquatic Programs and Classes at The Victor E. Benstead Plunge pool year-round. The Victor E. Benstead Plunge has been serving the community since 1956. "The Plunge," as commonly referred to, is a heated Olympic sized 50 x 20 meter outdoor pool, open year round. The pool is divided into two courses; one 25 yard and one 26 meter course. The pool is heated year-round to about 80° to 81°. The Plunge operating hours are from 4:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with classes and programs offered at various times. The Positions LIFEGUARD ($18.94 - $20.88 per hour) Lifeguard duties include but are not limited to: * Enforce pool safety rules and regulations; * Monitor swimming and other pool activities; * Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning; * Apply cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid; * Inspect swimming pool for cleanliness and perform routine maintenance; * Keep a daily log of rescues and other emergencies and prepare written reports of these activities; * Assist in teaching swimming techniques. AQUATICS INSTRUCTOR ($19.40 - $21.39 per hour) Aquatics Instructor duties include but are not limited to: * Perform lifeguard duties; * Teach swimming techniques, diving, water polo, and competitive and synchronized swimming; * May coach the swim team and officiate at swim meets. HOURS: This is a recurrent, part-time, non-civil service, as needed position. Shift hours may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.Lifeguard Possession of the following current certificates at time of appointment: * Red Cross First Aid (either multi-media, standard, or advanced); * Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR; and * Red Cross Lifeguard Training. One or more seasons of experience as a lifeguard or swim instructor is desirable.
